Wasn't sure where to post this so here it is...

I am trying to find loading data for the 12 gauge, 2.75" AA hulls, and 00 buckshot. I have the Lyman #2 and the data presented with felt wads and shot cards and whatever. Unfortunately, none of these components are at my reloading bench! Is there any place a person might find data using readily available Winchester wads? I loaded some many years ago, and I could tear a couple of them apart and weigh the components, but those were loaded during a "reckless" time period in my life and I am uncertain where the data came from!! Hell, maybe I just made it up. Any help???...BCB

BCB, does HAVE to be 00 Buck? My grandson and I (he mostly under my care) loaded 25 each of 0 and #2 a couple weeks ago using AA wads and AA hulls and and HS-6 ansd SR7625. All readliy available, and loads right out of the book that work good.

Now, here's the thing about the buck sizes using wads - even and level loading tiers. 0 in three to a tier and 3 tiers, and #2 in 4 to a tier and 4 tiers. Nice even payloads. I load mine in preprimed Fiochi clear hulls and I can see what's in them. Anyway, that's what we do. Oh, slugs, too, but I put a 20 ga felt wad in the bottom of the shot cup under the slug. It keeps the slug from denting into the wad and not separating evenly and brings the slug level up to where a nice crimp is easy. sundog

sundog,

Double 0 is what I have on stock, but I could possible get smaller buckshot. My 00 stack 2 side-by-side, then 2 side-by-side at right angle to the previous layer.

I believe I loaded the ones I have by weighing the total number of 00 pellets and then using data for that weight of shot. It seemed to have worked back then, but I ain't sure about today!!! They are shot down a tube that was altered with a plumbers tool, a pipe cutter!, so there is NO restriction what so ever. Maybe that is what saved me from extreme pressures?

What book are you getting the data from?

Thanks...BCB

BCB, right on about the pressure, it can sure take a spike if you're not careful.

I'll be out in the barn later casting .22 boolits (actually its raining here today for the first time with measurable precip in months but the drought ain't near over). I'll take a look see at the book that I think is Lyman #4 Shotshell manual. Well, heck, I'm just sittin' here having coffee, and I need to see what the dogs are into, so I'll go get it right now and turn on the pot and set a mould on to preheat.... Be back in a bit. sundog

BCB, Lyman Shotshell Reloading Handbook, 4th Edition. Man, it's wet and cold out there! Gonna have to fire up the wood stove later when I go out.

On page 268 there are 3 loads that require no wadding or fillers. These are for Win Compression formed hulls - AA.

SR 7625/26.0/Win 209/WAA12R wad/12 pellets #0/1271 fps/9,800 LUP

SR4757/31.0/Win 209/WAA12R wad/10 pellets #0/1395 fps/9,100 LUP

Blue Dot/38.0/Win 209/WAA12R wad/10 pellets #0/1374/9,100 LUP

Stuck in my book on that page was also a printout from May 2001 from the IMR website using Fed Gold Medal shells. There are 5 loads listed. I went to the IMR site just now, and its apparently that data is no longer there.

Well, anyway if this helps, great. btw, after typing the rest of this entry, I just now went back and verified the data above. It's correct from the book. Buckshot is good stuff, Maynard! sundog

Oh, you know what? I just realized you want 00 not 0. Okay, let's look again.

Again, page 268, only one load with 00 and its with a BPGS and felt wads. No go for your loads.

So, for comparison, here are some loads from that IMR data I mentioned for Fed GM hulls, all with 209A primer.

700X/17.5/Fed 12S3 wad/20 gr BP SDC buffer/8 pellets #00/1230 fps/10,900 psi

PB/25.0/12S4 wad/20 gr BP SDC buffer/8 pellets #00/1340 fps/10,900 psi

7625/30.0/12S4/20 gr BP SDC buffer/8 pellets #00/1410 fps/10,800 psi

800X/29.0/12S4/20 gr BP SDC buffer/8 pellets #00/1465 fps/10,800 psi

4756/37.0/WAA12R/18 gr BP SDC buffer/8 pellets #00/1545 fps/10,900 psi

Again, I went back and rechecked everything I keyed in above.

On page 265 I found only one entry for Fed Hunting hull with paper basewad:

Blue Dot/33.0/WAA12R/12 #00/1261 fps/9,800 LUP

Hope some of this heps. sundog

sundog,

Yep, that is a good help and will give me starting points. I will also check the IMR pamphlets and other IMR info I have. WAA12R is the wad, I think, that I used years ago. Maybe I did have good data then.

Be careful and don't burn down the barn with the hot lead...BCB

A real boolit caster would cast round balls for his buckshot. :D
