Hey fellas, I was given a LEE .440/128gr round ball mold (440RB) along with a Pietta Remington New Army 44cal BP pistol. Wouldn't this mold be too small?

Yes. That mold is probably for a 45 caliber rifle using a patched round ball.

Keep the mold, it will not bring a lot on ebay. Buy the correct mold and find someone to give the .440 mold to in the future.

I find it interesting that nobody has posted the correct round ball mold.
I would like very much to know the correct size for the .44 pistol and also the .36 pistol.
I may decide to try to shoot them some day.
For inquiring minds, yes, I am an idiot.

Recommended sizes for a .44 cap and ball revolver range from .451", .454" and .457" depending on the manufacturer.

For the .36's, it is usually .375", but I have one that requires .380" so all of my Navies get fed .380".

0.451 to 0.457 for the 44/45 and .375 for the 36 cal works for me. I like 0.454 balls for Pietta's.

You mention a Pietta Remington copy. I believe that works well with the .454 round ball. I know my Ubertis like that size. For the 36 caliber C&B revolver, all I use is .380. Others may have different preferences.

When I had a pietta 1860 I used a .454" round ball with a wonder wad and 30 grs of 3fg it shot very well.

Never sell a mould ... you never know what the future will bring you .
You or a buddy will need it ... sooner or later !

454 balls for my 1858 Remington by Piette. I use Pyrodex P, it's ok. I'm looking for something better but I have 1.5 lbs to work thru first.

Just a thought: Mike the round balls produced by that mold. Sometimes they'll fool you.
