I’m in search of some load suggestions for a 35 whelen I recently acquired.
Boolits on hand:
230 grain SWC PB
250 grain Accurate molds 360-250 GC flat nose. Looks like a “ Ranch Dog” type of boolit.
200 grain Lee RNFP gas checked.
I’m going to break out a new Lyman 358315-204 grain mold also.
All sized to .358.
I’ve got pretty much all kinds and speeds of powder.
I’ve got the Lyman cast bullet handbook #4 also.

So, fire away, so to speak, lol.
Any and all suggestions are deeply appreciated.

Thank you gentlemen very much, in advance.

For the 250gr accurate mold bullet I would use IMR 4064. It’s my go to powder for hunting loads. Can’t recall
The # of grains, I’m not home now & can’t look it up.

My sole venture into loading for the 35 Whelen involved a ~250 grain commercial cast GC boolit and 30 grains of IMR 4759. I loaded for a buddy who was just learning to load cast boolits. I used a 357 expander die with the expander set as low as it would go to flare the cases, feeling the bump as I lowered the handle. Then I just loaded them normally. He said they shot pretty well, but hit really low, and praised the reduced recoil.

There are good, pressure tested data for 200, 250 & 280 gr cast bullets here:

Your heavy bullet will work best. I suspect .358 sizing will be too small.
