Anyone shooting round balls in there 12 gauge New Englander? I was thinking about trying a shot style load, just substituting a round ball instead of shot. My 20 gauge Fowler shoots this style load and a patched round ball equally well.

A friend used a patched round ball in his double barrel, and was amazed at how accurate it was at 25 yards. Measure the bore with the knife edge tips of dial calipers until you get repeatable values. And remember to allow for a tight patch. Track of the Wolf should have a mold. Eastern Ky deer hunting was the intended use. 25 yard accuracy will usually cover the situation.

I shoot round balls in my .75 blunderbuss / Musketoon
.75 is 11 gauge and smooth bore.
I can’t say that it is accurate because the rifle doesn’t have sights.
But I do keep it on the target at 50 yards using 60 grains of powder and a tight patch over a overpower fiber wad.

I shoot a patched .690 ball in my New Englander with 90gr. FFG and a .020 patch. It shoots really good for what it is but with no rear sight I have problems with elevation stringing and will pull one out of five either high or low. If I get around to it I want to stick a very simple rear sight on it.

My New Englander does really well with .715" bare balls. I do have to wipe after a couple of shots though. I don't have the one with the choke, just a cylinder bore.

Mine is also cylinder bore.

I think I will try to get a .69 and a .715 mold to try.

.

Once upon a time, I used to shoot deer with a .535" PRB in my T/C Renegade 56SB (smoothbore), when my state allowed only smoothbore muzzleloaders for deer (rifled SB's were allowed 10yrs later).

The accuracy was decent enough, up to about 100yds - much further than I was usually presented with a shot.

I also used it on upland game when deer season wasn't open, with a 28ga shotcup (topped with a card wad)

Mine has choke tubes and does best with Improved cylinder

I killed several deer with a custom loaded rb and an 870.
