Acquired a box of old reloading gear, gun parts, and ammo. In the box of various sights was an odd looking aperture sight. This sight has an adjustment screw on the rear and a 1/4"x 28TPI thread on the front. Is there an RKI (reasonably knowledgeable individual) out in Boolit world that might recognize this rear peep sight?326446

A photo would help.

A photo and there are likely a couple of numbers / letters on it that may help.

Winchester made a sight that went on the bolt of a Model 71. I'm not that familiar with it, but it's a possibility.

Here is one I had added to my Win 1892 It was done by a man in MN
This is supposed to be like the ones Winchester put on the Model 71 & 65
It certainly aids older eyes

FWIW, the OP's sight isn't a Winchester 98a bolt peep sight, as those had large bumps on the lower surface, where it was to be inletted into the bolt top.

For your comparison, here's a gennie:

Great idea. Looks perfect to go on the bolt of a Mosin Nagant.

The Winchester 98A is an excellent bolt peep, if not the best made. I have 3 of these quality sights that came on pre-war Model 71 Winchesters in 348 WCF. Winchester also put them on the Deluxe Model 64.

For Alaskan use, the best rig on a 450 Alaskan is the Lyman 56 receiver peep with a Marbles 95 fold-down as a back up sight. Gunsmiths are far away and inconvenient in Alaska. Plan ahead.
