Here's my thought:

A .340 copy of the 35 cal 310 Thumper. Need all the shank in the neck, and a nose .785" for a COAL of 2.800" for the 338 Federal. This will need a crimp groove as well. Thanks fellas!

Regards,

Kevin

Edited to add a .200" meplat.

Take a look at the Accurate Molds 34-170M. Appears to be about exactly what you're looking for.

Draw up what you like and run it by Tom at Accurate Molds. If it makes sense, He'll make you one then catalog it.

Do you want the heal of the bullet to be in the neck of the cartridge? Or are you okay with it being below the shoulder body junction of the cartridge? I have a heavy custom I designed for my 350 Rem Mags I think the are listed as 360 250 B and 360 270 in Accurate' s catalog. The gas check is below the neck and they shoot fine.

It is now cataloged as a 360-313-FN

OK. Longer nose then. Look at the 34-220A. Request that the front band and crimp groove be shifted rearward slightly, expand the meplat by .02", and adjust the nose taper and length of the bore ride section to suit your throat.

I've recently been bit on the butt by a too-blunt nose in a .30-06 that runs great in one controlled-round feed rifle, but noses up too abruptly on contact with the ramp to feed in several others. Worth knowing what's going to choke your rifle going in, and sacrificing a little front-end girth in order to make it into the chamber cleanly.

What if it doesn't make sense ... will he make it anyway and not catalog it ?

I love it when things have to make sense ...
... that is just so Cool !

Correct; everything in the neck.

Also, given that lands are typically. 004" high, I'm thinking about making lube groove depth .012", or 3x land height. I use Lars Carnauba Red EXCLUSIVELY in ALL my cast boolits. This would be one way to gain weight in a given design.
