Just a head's-up for those that like to tinker with shot cartridges:

The Smithfield brand Delicatessen Style sliced ham, and turkey, products contain a
thin plastic sheet. It makes a good, sturdy (did I mention CHEAP?) overshot card.

Send all thanks and accolades in cash.

for those that care, Smithfield was purchased by by a CCCP Chinese conglomerate a few years ago -

I deleted my post in case it was misconstrued as being political, which I did not mean it to be.

Wasn't aware I placed this in the "Political" section... Moderator, kindly move the thread to "Shot Loads for Pistols" section.

Thanks for the tip.
Coincidentally I’m punching out some wads (card and plastic) for a dozen .38 shotloads from a JBWeld package.
Going to be snakeish around here soon.

Soon? Shoot! I have already harvested 3 out at the Airplane Patch!

How are you finding the JB Weld plastic parts? I was concerned they were a tad brittle.
Harbour Freight (OMG! Another Chinese importer!) has a set of hex-head hole punches that I intend to fetch, come payday.
I am hoping running the punch on a drill press will step up my production rate and make a cleaner end product.

Your thoughts?

There is a guy ( nwilson1024 ) on this site that is making a dandy set of shotgun wad cutters to be used in a hand drill or drill press. They cut and eject the wad at the same time. A video on youtube can be found at : htt://youtube.com/shorts/_ogoZM_migg?feature=share

That'd be sweet.

It may be too brittle- here’s one that I’m going to seal with LLA and try out on a paper plate.
I usually use shotgun shell box or .22 shell carton wads but I thought the see through wads were worth a try.
I’ll try the drill press method, thanks.
My wad punches came from the bargain table after the boat trip…..https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240420/7c8934a7a8ce1c9d01a2ab3b8ae310a2.jpg

Ummnnnn.... THANKS! You just gave me an idea for decent card wads! Chinette brand paper plates! Thick, heavy, sturdy and I can harvest a boatload from the oval dinner plate!

You're a PAL, pard! :)

I like those.
Mine are hammer powered.

Mine are too, which is why I am exploring other options. I need to use old door key cards for the stamping base, so as to not deform my punch, and muck up my punch base (hickory block). Plus, the spinning method should be quicker. We shall see...

By golly it works!
Thanks again for the idea. I’m just using some pine trim for backing-heck, if I keep pushing I’ll have some wooden wadcutter bullets![emoji16]

I’m down to 4 Speer capsule rounds so I needed to try the .38 with card wads. They appear to be very capable at ten feet on a paper snake.
3 grs AA#2, 100 grs of #11/12irregular shot.
A card over the powder seated with a close fitting punch, add shot(.40 S&W case),another card on top then crimp. A dab of LLA to seal it.
CCI can keep their expensive shot loads!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240421/c687c64e9de365bef22b52365ce619fd.jpg

What's a "CCI shot load"? :)

CCI makes or made little capsules to load shot in handgun cases, the lid makes the gas seal.
I loaded up a box decades ago and have never used any.
I think they also might make them already loaded up.
