I bought a set of these dies a few years ago when I got into ARs and knew Id be reloading a lot more 5.56. Most of my dies are older RCBS or Lee.

Right away I broke a decapping pin and was surprised to see RCBS changed the pin design. So I purchased a package of replacements. Ive only had to replace a small number of the old style in 30 years of reloading. This is not the case with this bew style! Im down to one in the package already for the 5.56.

Are they a weaker design, metal or just meant to break more easily? Are you having many of them break?

Thanks!

I have broken one in the last 15k rounds. Much of that is with stubborn crimped in mil primers. I always ensure that the decap rod is centered by not snugging the lock nut until the expander is pulled back into the neck. Will ensure that it is hitting the flash hole centered. In my experience I very rarely break RCBS 223 decap pins. I've owned the AR series, standard FL, and X die. All are the same decap pins. Same result for all.
