That amalgamation represents a conglomeration of parts available on the US surplus market in the 1930's. Just think of the collector appeal! Springfield collectors- check. 1917 Enfield collectors- check. Krag collector- check.

Comparable condition? Haven't fired it. Haven't checked the headspace or cleaned the bore yet.

I probably paid 1/10 of that price. I'd have to search for the bill. Thought it was neat and figured it had to be a Bannerman Special. I had read something about them some time prior to the auction.

The part about welding the front half of a Springfield 1903 bolt to the rear half of a 1917 bolt is interesting.
1903 reciever, 1917 stock and bottom metal, Krag sights, and a repurposed machine gun barrel….
I’ve also heard of Mosin 1891 rifles that were converted to 30-06 by Bannerman- not considered safe to shoot.

There was a replica/reprint of one of Bannerman's Island Arsenal Catalogues available for several years. I've got one (somewhere), but I don't know if they're still available. Fascinating reading, and they made several rifles from conglomerated parts. I guess the products fit the budgets of the Latin American nations.

I used to work with a guy that fished the Hudson back in the 70's and he pulled up on the island to have a look around. He said he saw small gun parts a couple inches under the dirt here and there. A rusted up ladder sight first got his attention to kick around. Story is when the powder magazine blew up. parts of every kind were scattered all over the island since parts were stored in the rooms above the magazine. Fascinating old place.
