Shooting gophers in a snow flurry is always a good sign of spring!
Got around 40 with the 218 Bee, making sure my brother's new 17 is up to the task before handing it back to him also. Seems like it's working out!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240407/1e2975b991061edbc5260d8a3bf8eca5.jpg

Is that the savage super mag? If it is I love mine. Getting hard to find ammo tho. I’ve changed to the 218 Bee so I can reload. I’ve got about 10-12 boxes of the super mag ammo stashed, it’s the wife’s fav gun.

No, it's just an HMR. And yes...I set it on the manure. There was a little bit of moisture in the grass so believe it or not - it was the lesser of two evils.

That’s a frisbee, not a cow patty![emoji16]
The one Savage .17 WSM that I’ve fired didn’t shoot near as accurately as any of the Marlin and Savage .17 HMR rifles that I’ve tested/owned over the years- just my experience.
The .17 HMR is a great crow remover, too.
Down here, one has to sit beside the gopher hole with a shotgun pointed at it. When the loose dirt moves, pull the trigger!
Different brand of gopher, probably.

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkWe have those also. We don't shoot many true "gophers", but shoot the tar out of ground squirrels. The photo is a Richardson (I think - red head) but we also have Columbian ground squirrels also.

Great time to shoot spring chucks, early grass, before grass gets too high. Reason I traded for my first 6.5x06 in 1967 when I was in college. Had some wide and long valley pastures in NH. The 6.5 would throw dirt so a spotter could see the impact of a missed shot past 600. A long time before laser range finders.
