Easy $10 (3.5lb) AR15 Trigger

I just installed a JP Enterprises reduced power trigger spring kit in my AR15 9mm. My previous trigger pull was 6.75-7lbs and was gritty. While I had the trigger out I used a smooth whetstone to smooth the 2 sear engagement areas on the trigger and then placed 1500grit sandpaper on the stone to further polish it. Finished it up with a little dremel polish with red compound to make it shine like a mirror.

Pull dropped from the gritty 7ish lbs to 3.5-3.75 smooth lbs. Warnings include poor ignition of hard primers. Not a worry for me with pistol primers. I didn't take a ton of pics because of all the vids and tutorials online. I will include a vid on the trigger install which is really easy. I still need to fire it to verify safe operation and will report on that when I do. This is a really easy cheap mod.

I have done this to 2 rifles, using the same spring kit, and you are spot on. It works well, inexpensive, and easy to do. My results mirrored yours, a decent trigger. Dan

Thanks. Did you have any problems with primer ignition?

I forgot to include the grip screw mods that allow you to remove take up in the OP. My FM products lower isn't drilled thru the lower to allow use of one. I did the grip screw mod on my other AR15 and it really made a huge difference in that trigger.

The allen head threaded adjustment through the pistol grip retention screw, to the trigger, is probably worth it's weight in gold. At $10 it is a no brainer.

Yep. With the trigger spring kit I listed and the grip screw adjuster you are pretty danged close to a match trigger for $20 especially if you polish the machined trigger surfaces.

I had some trouble with a dedicated rimfire. Switched the hammer spring to the JP red and the problem was solved with very minimal increase in trigger weight.

Never a problem in centerfire rifles.

I shot 15rds thru my AR9 after I got home from work. I have to admit the first round got away from me. My finger was in "take up" mode and the gun was firing. I got the feel for it and fired off all rounds with no problems. Trigger feels incredible now.

I brought it in the house and used the pull gauge. 5 pulls all read exactly 3lbs. This trigger feels awesome now. Tiny bit of smooth creep before breaking. I have no reason to mess with it further.
