Yep. It’s been too cold for me to get outdoors so I’m still in the 410 rabbit hole.

Can anyone share their 410 buckshot reloading results? I am beginning this journey of 410 buckshot reloading and wanted to tap into the experiences of this well diversified group.
I won’t be hunting or shooting skeet with the load so it’s mostly for a cool factor at the range.

I have/had ( before the boating accident where everything got lost) a TC Super 14 with a 410/45Colt barrel, a O/U that I sometimes reload for skeet, and hopefully in the near future a Judge.

410 Components (again before the boating accident):
Clays powder
A410
W296
Bullseye
Extra Lite

Win AA Hs and CF hulls

Cheddite primers

CB5050-410HS hulls

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I'm watching too, as I have a Bond Arms derringer, single shot bolt action, Savage 24 and a semi-auto .410 AR contraption.

I load double .440 round balls but never buck shot.

I like H110 for my 410, single ball and slugs, mostly because price & availability.

The only data I have currently for any 410, uses H110...I may have tried Unique in Brass ... will need to look, as I abandoned it!!

Haven’t dabbled with brass yet. Did think about grabbing a lb of alliant 410 but why?

3-4-5 ball buckshot is a doddle to load in the wee cartridge.... if you poke in your normal smaller shot components and fill up cup with buckshot you will not go far wrong..double check the weights... it is surprisingly effective and fro mthe few Ive patterned it seems to pattern tighter than it should,my THEORY is the balls slipstream each other as they are all in line.
I can check in lyman manual for specific recipe but seriously its not hard to replace one payload with another.

Milky Duck; Are you stacking pellets that "fit"??? ie. 000?
Been considering stacking 38Spl projectiles!!!!

Here’s something a little confusing to me.
Hornady makes/sells and has 000 buckshot on their website. Diameter is 0.350
I downloaded a chart that shows diameters of all the buckshot. Their diameter for 000 is 0.360.
Hornady lists a 410 load, in their reloading data section on their website, and uses 0.375.

Can someone explain why there are differences in the diameters?

yes...Ive used 00 and 000 the smaller ones are definately a better option as more wiggle room through choke and when you get one more in and do maths on toatal payload...yip better off....Ive read of folks doing 38sp pills but not been game myself...have looked at other pills and the options are endless as long as payload weight is ok and will fit out end without issue...using my chamber adapter from .12ga which has straight walls right through eg the chamber diameter right to end of barrel..in that I can do all sorts of things I wouldnt attempt otehrwise.

Now I am thinking of reaming out my cylinder shaped mold to a diameter that fits loosely into a plastic wad to make cylinders or disks to stack. I have made one that casts cylindrical pellets that I can stack 9 into a 12 ga shell and have found they scatter nicely at close range.

I have been using 444 Marlin brass for my 410 loads because I had some.

What I’m finding:
A CB5050-410HS wad (the same wad I use to reload for skeet) has an internal depth of ~1.317”.
A 00 buckshot is 0.33” diameter and weighs 60 gr.
In the wad I can stack 4-00 balls and that payload equals approximately 1/2 oz. Which, is a standard 410 2-1/2” load.
Now it seems I can load 4-00 buckshot using the same charge I use to reload for skeet (1200 FPS).

Any thoughts?

Here is a video I did on my version of 410 Buck shot.

I bought some Hornady 00 #6400. 4 of the shot stack nice in the wad, which should give a good crimp. I can push the loaded wad through the TC choke that comes standard with the 410/45 Colt barrel. The load doesn’t fall through the choke but there’s enough tension to hold the load. So far it appears the load seems to fit a Super 14 with the choke installed.

According to my Speer reloading handbook, safe loads are listed not to exceed 25,000 C.U.P for a 45 Colt on a Contender. That equates to 19,998 PSI.
Hornady lists my 410 skeet load at 9,300 PSI for 1/2 oz load. That seems good so far.

I weighed 10 single pieces of 00 shot and the average is 53.36 gr each. 4-00 shot equates to 0.488 ounces so I am going to call the weight close enough to my skeet load.

Because the barrel has rifling, I chose to pursue using the CB5050-410 HS wads and the 00 buckshot. The combination seems to fit nicely through the choke.

Now I’ll need to load some rounds.

you may find removal of wad petals is a good thing..when we played around with a H&R rifled 12ga years back plastic wads stripped off bits into the rifling something shockingly.
