I recently got a Williams FP GR for my 39a. It is the one that fits on a dovetail. When fully tightened down, the dovetail tension screws stick out from the sight body enough to snag on things. Is this the way they are designed or am I messing something up? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240323/1b83e440a22007fbb426ec8e5f62a690.jpg

Boy ..they may have been designed that way, but I'd be for trimming some length off of those Bad Larry's

I've had to shorten screws before.

After I got 'em to the right length, I let 'em soak in Brownell's cold blue for awhile.
They blended right in.

I'd wander down to the local Ace Hardware and look for a couple of shorter screws- good excuse to see if they have anything else interesting.

That is the way they were designed. This image shows the screws sticking out about the same as yours. You should be okay shortening them though.

I would shorten them down what was needed. Most screws for fire arms are NEF ( national extra fine ) and hard to find in hardwares or big box stores. I would take out one at a time and set on an allen wrench in vise and with a file cut them down. Check every few passes as you dont want to go to far. Better is if you have the tap, tap a hole in thins flat stock and run screw into this to file down.

Once cut down re blue the bright ends to protect them. Looks like you need to remove about 2 threads is all.
A 6" fine file will only take a few passes to remove what you need in a good set up. The tapped hole in flat stock works really good and keeps the end square. If the stock is thick you can run the screw thru and jam it with a second.

You can do it on a grinder but if that wheel grabs it its launched and gone.

Chances are those are off the shelf screws one length is what you have the next shorter will be about that much to short.
