I started with a old 93 Mauser Action and a 98 Mauser Stock that needed love. The stock must had been fitted to a action that had a bull barrel. I had to add wood to top of forearm area. This left a seam because the forearm had a radius to it, I inletted over the top of this seam with pie shape pieces of maple, over the pie shape pieces I put scholl design pieces. This covered the seam. In total there were 97 pieces inlaid. The stock being made for a 98 action meant fitting the 93 action to it. I had to do more camoflaging where the trigger guard would fit it. also a lot of inletting work for the action area. For bedding I used JB Weld. Grip cap and fore end piece were also added.
Next was a little engraving on action and trigger and floorplate.
A ball bearing trigger was made for it with lots of help from a member. The trigger really help to lighten the trigger pull. One other member also had a bolt altered for scope use he sold to me. A Timney Low Scope Safety was also added. Barrel is a Rhindland
This is what I ended up with.

Hate to say, I have not got to shoot it yet. Waiting to have some eye surgery done. Once that is over and I heal I will know more.

Feeds just fine, even with a large metplate bullet.

I have built many Mauser 93’s over the years.
But never one to this fancy level.
I am glad I helped you with some of the mechanical items like that customized trigger.

My ‘93 crawled over and faced the wall and is sobbing after I showed it the pics of your rifle…

One of my first shade tree smithing project was making a full stock mannlicher-type carbine out of a 7mm ‘93. Went down the road years ago but was fun to build and shoot.

I believe Rhineland still makes the Small Ring Mauser https://www.troupsystems.com

Just WOW!
Nice work. Looks like an artisan from Louis The 14th's armory made it.
It's nice to know it feeds without rail modifications. Did you use a standard follower?
I've considered barreling a small ring Mauser to .450 Marlin, but just never got past other projects. From my projects 219 DW and other 30-30 Winchester based cases will feed from small rings if you play with swapping around different SM and LR followers. Just have to get the case aligned and the rim to pop up into the bolt face before it catches.

Thanks for the kind words. The stock was a mess when I got it. It had really been butchered, but I could not throw such a pretty piece of maple in the trash.
I have had no feeding problems with the standard follower that comes with a 93

Sorry to hear that, for that is where I got one for another small ring. Had to wait for 6 months.

Bill, you've inspired me. I've got a barrel blank in the lathe as I'm writing this that is going to become a 450 BM barrel for a '93 Mauser. I won't be making the rifle as fancy as yours, but it should turn out to be a good pig and deer hunting gun. It's good to hear that you're getting good feeding because hearing that was what green lighted this project for me.

K43: Several things: First, building a Mauser in 450 Bushmaster would be a lot easier than the 450 Marlin because you won't need to open up the bolt face or have to re-contour the extractor. The factory bolt will work for the 450 BM. Second, when adapting a Mauser follower for using rimmed cartridge it is beneficial to either braze a tab to the back of the follower or install a screw or something to prevent the rim from coming off the back of the follower and jamming between the back edge of the follower and the magazine well. Third, this is a suggestion that is yet to be proven, but seems logical. I'm currently working on a model 98 in 30-30. I've decided to use the follower from a P1914 Enfield because (unlike Mauser style followers) it has a curved ramp at the nose of the follower. This ramp is designed to help feed rimmed cartridges in a bolt action. So far the P14 follower seems to feed dummy rounds fine, but the rifle isn't finished yet, and the show's not over until the fat lady sings.

405grain,
Good suggestions. I've did my Wasp on a 98 back in the 1980's and found out about the tab on the follower after visiting Jamsville a few times. I think I also read it in Howe's book. I'll take a look at the P1914 follower, though I don't currently need one. ;)
I will take a look at doing the 450 BM - that would simplify the 93 action I have sitting in a box. Thank you!
The pursuit is to make a straight case bolt gun for deer hunting in MD and other straight wall case states. That, and this is a hobby. I originally looked for lower pressure cartridges for the 93, hence the choice - I'll look at the 450 BM. Just need to get some go juice to add to you gentlemen's motivating discussions.
