Im wondering if anyone uses their .357 cast boolits in a .35 Remington for plinking rounds? I have a RCBS RN mold that drops a 160 grainer with WW alloy and a Lyman 358429 that drops the same weight. Im thinking this may even be a decent boolit for small game hunting and possibly deer. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, Mike

I do not really see why not. I used to use the 180gn .357 sillywets in my .35 rem when I shot IMHSA back in the '80s. Actually made a good load.

As long as they cycle freely, they work fine. Sizing them around 0.360 seems to work best. Check your case neck clearance first. The 358156 HP can be turned into a screamin varmit round in the 35.

Theres definatly plenty of clearance so that wont be a concern. Thanks much.:-D

I've killed a sack-full of deer with the Lyman 358156 158 gr. gas-check solid point. Tried the same boolit in hollow-point but it didn't seem to give as clean kills as the solid. Don't remember the powder, sorry.

Same here on using 358156 up through 2000 fps. I use a lot of 358477s over 4.5 gr Bullseye at 1050 fps but mostly use the Lee 356-120-TC (they drop at .359" over 5 gr Bullseye at 1170 fps. My current .35 Remington is a M91 Argentine Mauser with a 26" Shilen barrel.

Years ago, I put together some .35 Remington loads with the 358477 for a co-worker. They were reduced loads for plinking and I don't recall what I put in them, but he said they shot fine; he had no idea that such a thing was possible.

Flat pointed bullets, such as the above, may or may not cycle well in a lever gun. That's something to consider.

That's the beauty to the 35 cal be it 35 Rem, 35 Whelen, 350 Mag, 35/30-30, whatever. All those 357 peestol boolits to play with. I knew a guy said he even used 9mm jacketed stuff in his 358 Win. A 150 gr boolit at 800 fps is perfect for the kids and small game. As was said a 358156 can be a deer load or a varmint buster. Use the Lee 180FP and you havea grat deer/black bear load.

I love my 35's.

I do have a 358156HPGC that I will try out with a harder alloy. I even have a shorter HP pin for a reduced expansion boolit that im thinking may be great deer medicine over some Unique or 2400.
