Marlin 1889 Lever gun chambered in 38-40 Winchester. This particular gun was manufactured in 1890.

The owner has had the rifle diagnosed as having a bad sear. Local gunsmith has not been able to find one and attempted to fabricate one without success.

He asked if I could recommend someone who has a lot of experience with them. I’ve got a couple ideas who to refer him to, but would appreciate if others with more experience with the old Marlins could give me any suggestions.

Have you tried looking for a sear from an 1894, 1895 or 1893 to see if they are close enough to possibly function? I think you'll be looking for a while for a part for a hundred and 30 year old firearm.

I will forward that info to him. At least he will have a place to start. I just don't know much about Marlins at all.

These guys show it as normally carried but currently out of stock. https://cfnparts.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=628

Wonder if Numrich is still around?

EBAY thats where I found a couple 1889 parts. Took a while to find them but then they were cheap too.

Every place I looked is out of stock. I have an 1889 carbine I could probably copy the sear.
