The Father in Law was on it for quite awhile.
He told folks to do exactly what they told you to do as far as diet & everything was concerned.

I'm a lifelong Type 1 diabetic, 65 years now, and a registered nurse. My kidneys are still hanging on, but barely. Fire away if you have questions buggybuilder, I might be able to help! :)

There are two methods. Hemodialysis or PD. Here is a cliff notes version
Hemodialysis they combine some veins usually in an arm to make a hi blood flow location and usually every other day you hook up to a machine to clean your blood. Either at a center or for some people at home.
Peritoneal Dialysis is very different but has many advantages and a couple drawbacks. They insert a tube into your abdomen so every night you fill soak and drain a fluid multiple times to cleanse your blood using a membrane that lines the cavity if your organs. Not everyone is eligible for this. But most are.

Hemodialysis is less time consuming but rougher on your body due to clean blood very polluted blood cycle. And the fistula where vein surgery happens is to be protected at all times otherwise you’re in the hospital getting needles through your neck until they repair or create a new fistula and it heals. Also the arm with the fistula now has a very low weight limit. Making life difficult depending on your activity level.
PD is nightly so it owns the time of every night but it’s more frequent cleaning process so you feel better and life expectancy is longer. Also no weight restrictions
So you can do more. Just be back home every night. Although there are many provisions to do it on the road for travel.
Again this is a brief summary and there are many sources of info out there so study up determine what might be best.
All the best. JS

I had the tube installed for PD type but a transplant kidney arrived about the time to start using the tube. Miracles do happen.
