Norma ECO speed 22 LR ,

I was out looking at ammo today a bought a box of this stuff as the box says it’s muzzle velocity is 1706 fps with a non lead 24 gr. bullet.
I read a few reviews on it and it sounds to be disappointing !!
Out of a 18” rifle velocity’s were 300 to 500+ fps slower than advertised and grouped more like patterned poorly.

Has anyone else bought this ammo and shot it ? I guess I have been taken before but it sounds like junk ammo ?

I saw some on the shelf at the store, but I've not purchased any to try yet. The bullets are copper plated zinc. Those that use range brass for lead will need to be aware of it.

I bought some and it doesn't group worth a darn at 50 yds.
Will peddle it at a gunshow for cheap !!

I think it's a zink bullet,I picked up a brick but it's no good in any of my guns everything hit's way way LOW and a group is more of a pattern. I missed a small gray squirrel at 10 foot bullet hit two feet low and 6" right.
your better off throwing the ammo not shooting it.

I had a friend who bought a bunch because the prices was right. It won’t cycle any of our semi-autos and we’ve tried like 10 different ones. I chronographed some out of a 6” Colt official police and it was under 1000 FPS where CCI stinger was 1300 FPS. Accuracy isn’t anything special.

I saw this eco speed on sale am glad I passed . Good to see reports but sorry it is nothing worthwhile , will continue to buy good old lead bullets copper plated and enjoy accuracy over false environmentalism , funny how a short while ago 22lr was scarce and high cost compared to primers and now it is primers are high price and scarce .

I am currently buying 22lr as it is the lower cost alternative ( though no where as cheap as it was forever ) and I have always enjoyed a accurate rimfire at lower cost .

I've often wondered if it is possible to make useful boolits out of zinc. It does seem to have alot going for it. Reasonable cost, melts easily, casts ok, fairly hard. I would think that a zinc bullet with hollow point and thin copper jacket would be comparable to a Barnes or Hornady unleaded bullet. I once got a batch of "lead" that I'm 99% sure was from zinc wheelweights. It actually made acceptable looking boolits from my Lee molds but I was scared to try them because I have always read that zinc fouling is super hard to remove.

Back in the '50s there was a fad for zinc bullets in the .38 Spl and .357 Magnum. It faded away pretty quickly. I have a boxful of somebody's reloads that came in an auction lot, but have no plan to fire any.

I would think that zinc would work fine if PC and/or plenty of good boolit lube. A coat of LLA would probably help too. I might try 'em out sometime. If you hunt in a lead-free area it would probably be a worthwhile experiment, unless you enjoy paying .75 cents a round for bullets.
