Does Lyman's 380681 carry enough lube in a 38/55 black powder load?

According to THIS THREAD (https://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?261439-Share-a-few-new-molds) it is designed for the 38-55, so likely BP compatible. Whether or not it actually holds enough lube could be debated I guess. But 4x grooves of a moderate size, I'd think it wouldn't be the worst bullet I could think of. Look at some of the early 32-20 molds, they only had a single, and very small, lube groove....

Its going to depend on the barrel length, black powder , grains size and conditions. I shoot the lyman 330 grain in my 38-55s with no problems My barrels on my hi wall and hepburn are both 30" long. I shoot Olde Ensforde and Swiss 1 1/2 F. I do blow tube between shots. But get a good lube star at the muzzle with soft greasy powder fouling.

With Plack powder the lube does double duty to lube the bullet and keep the fouling soft.

compare it to the LEE 250 grain mold - that boolit works fine in my 24 inch barrel --I loaded 41 grains of Goex 5FA and a juice box wad - have shot 20 on the go without generating hard fouling
