I spent today re working / cleaning a 0 - 1" Browne and Sharpe slant line with carbide faces. I cant remember where I picked it up from but it was stiff so I oiled and let soak a while this helped some. I then disassembled and cleaned. some old thick coolant and dirt. got it cleaned up reset the collet and a little work lapping cleaning polishing the threads back in with simichrome. cleaned again and oiled. Carbide faces are square and match great, very smooth feel now nice feel turning. 0 .250 .500 .750 1.0 check 1/4 of travel along with .256 .512 .768 and 1.000 all are dead on with it. Mic reads to .0001 cleaned up it looks good and is very accurate. The second sets of gauge blocks checks at every 1/4 turn of the spindle.

That sounds like an educational project.

Every so often the mikes on the floor in the plant had to be cleaned tuned up and certified. they were rotated thru different jobs to keep wear more even on the threads. This set has been here for a long time.
