Guns without a 3rd degree?
USPS, UPS, FedEx which one or one's would you go with?[smilie=b:

USPS is who I use. Never a problem, but I live where guns are normal.

You can’t ship a handgun via USPS or I would.
I just sent one to S&W for repair and I had to use FedEx. S&W sent a FedEx label.
I called in for pickup; they never showed up.
So the next day I dropped it off at a FedEx center and S&W emailed a few days later saying that it arrived.

FFL can ship handguns.
UPS was requiring Blue Label overnight .
Long guns no problem with USPS.

In my area its Fedex for handguns and long guns can go with any of them.

If shipping to himself for out of state hunting I've had my best luck with USPS.

After my latest experience with USPS I will never ship a package with them again. I've had them rip the box open. Another time they literally broke a stock in half. Lately, they 'lost' a box of molds after I paid $240 (insured!) and after fighting with them for six weeks they cut me a check for $113 .

The OP hasn't specified what TYPE of guns he would possibly ship.

Different laws for different types.

Black Powder?
Rifles?
Shotguns?
Handguns?

For handguns, an individual can NOT use USPS.
For long guns, an individual CAN use USPS.
For Black Powder,, I'd have to ask first,, but I do believe an individual can still ship those USPS.

Other than that,, the private carriers like FedEx & UPS are the only other option for an individual.

A FFL, can use USPS as long as their local PO has a copy of their current FFL on file.

I have found that the most painless, least expensive method is to do a few things.
First,, find a small dealer with a FFL. Befriend them, and do business with them. The expense of the USPS shipping,, especially handguns,, is very nominal. Usually less than $20.00.
I take any handgun I wish to ship to the FFL,, and I take all the packaging I plan to use with me. I let the FFL, do his legal paperwork, then I put in the labor of properly & securely packing it up.
I double the insurance value,, and pay for that as well as require a signature for the receipt of the gun when it arrives at it's final destination.
For long guns,, I use USPS,, and again,, knowing how the monkeys & machines treat packages,, I package it up very securely,, AND again, double the value for the insurance, and require a signature.

A few extra bucks in insurance & signature required goes a LONG way in securing the firearm during shipment.

I try to never use Fed-up or UOOPS for firearm shipping.

I've never had a loss, or damage that way. But if a firearm were to go missing,, I'd be all over the ATF immediately as well as pushing the local Postmaster & the distribution center management. Damages,,, I've gotten to where I take good quality pictures of the gun prior to shipping, and during the packing process. Hard to try & refute an insurance claim with excellent documentation.

Around here USPS for long guns and UPS for handguns. I wouldn’t ship my garbage via FedEx.

When I take a long gun to ship, I always take a copy of the receivers FFL to prove it is going to an FFL. No problems with USPS

Long guns and black powder UPSP to a FFL or manufacturer
I used to work next to UPSP
Where I live and the UPSP was in the country , so guns were normal

Handguns , what ever the manufacturer is set up with
Last one was UPS , but the manufacturer sent me a shipping label

FEDEX are two entities. Express and Ground.

FEDEX Express is run by employees of FEDEX.

FEDEX Ground is farmed out to local delivery companies. Read the small print on the side of a FEDEX Ground truck. The Employees are not paid direct by FEDEX. So, each company is different. One might care about your package and the next company may care less and toss your package around the truck.

I ship important stuff via FEDEX Express using their "One Rate" boxes. Never had a problem.

We live in a very rural area with rural mailboxes on the same side of the road. FedEx has a different driver every day and some look like they are out on a work release program. I tried telling one that just because the mailboxes are on one side it doesn’t mean all the houses are also. I have also have had them leave boxes on the shoulder of the road by the mailbox. We have the same UPS driver for years, unless he’s got a day off and he knows where to deliver. Our rural USPS carrier s pretty much the same. Maybe FedEx is ok if you live in a city but out here everyone pretty much feels the same.
