Found this old Mossberg scope in my father in laws house when we were cleaning it out and trying to figure out what it might have been used on.

I looked up the Mossberg M4c in Old Rifle Scopes. The M4 series were made from 1939 to 1952, with four changes, 1939 a, 1946 b, 1949 c and 1952 d. Not a lot of info, a standard 22 rifle scope from 1949. Hope this helps, would fun to play with on an old 22. I have a similar one.

Thanks, That was kind of what I came up with but my references were sales ads and old info so I glad you have something more definitive. It is interesting since out of all the guns we found there were no 22's. There was a Camp 9 and a Model 94 30-30 and I don't think this would have fit either on of those.

I do have an old Mossberg 22 rifle from that era that I could put it on but I would probably have to take off the factory peep sights and I don't want to do that.

I've got a 1939 Mossberg M51 which I have 2 older external adjustment scopes, one is 4 power and I believe the other is 2 power. I love old Mossbergs, wish I had a bunch more. Nice scope.

Just a note on your Mossberg M4c. Those are not the correct rings for this scope. Appears someone misplaced the original rings and put some cheaper rings on it that have the "Japaned" finish that was sort of a gloss black painted coating. Originals for the M4c would have been blued steel.
