Are those hideous things removable?

I’m eyeing a 3-screw Blackhawk that has one.

Some were soldered on and some were screwed on, IIRC. But most were glued on. Any of them can be removed , but you may be looking at 3 or four holes in the barrel or some ugly spots where the bluing is gone. However some folks say they were able to remove the glued on ones without marring the finish. Look closely before making an offer and I'd seek a discount just for the work involved in removing it. I gave a Hand Ejector S&W 44 a hard pass for similar reasons. The rib, modified hammer and sawed-off barrel made it too ugly for my taste. Not to mention the probability that unknown hands had been tinkering with the action as well.

I had a Ruger MK II 5 1/2 inch bull barreled pistol that came with one. It was mounted to the pistol by a black colored rubbery cement. Heated the barrel with a hair dryer and used a piece of braided fishing pulled along the barrel/receiver to separate the two. You'll want a couple of dowel handles on the braided fishing line, so you don't cut your hands.
