Wife and I stopped in town for a burger today. The place is across from an old grain mill, long abandoned and run down. I remembered what my Father told me that happened there in 1935 or 36. A Smith & Wesson factory representative was passing through on a Saturday when everyone was in town. He put out the word that he was giving a demonstration of the then new 357 Magnum at the mill. He bought a 50 pound block of ice and shot it dead center at about 15 feet. That soft sloppy ice block exploded and all the kids were running around looking for a chips of ice. All the men wanted to look at the pistol and it was passed around. He said people talked about it for weeks. Imagine doing that on a side street two blocks from the court house today.
Sort of funny how we remember things, haven't thought about that for years.
