Just felt like talking about a favorite revolter. Posted a photo also. This is a much carried and used S&W mdl 13. Lee rnfp in 38 cases are what is used the most. The Lyman 358429 works very well in a 357 case with 2400 powder.

This little gun has become my best go to IDPA gun and also tends to be with me on long trips and short walks. I figure it'll handle any social issues I run into and amazingly it tends to shoot to point of aim with a wide variety of .38 Spl and 357 Mag loads.

I tend to accumulate S&W revolvers and personally believe you cannot find a more versatile handgun than a good 38/357 for general use. Also have a mdl 66 and 686 that see a great deal of use and are kept close at hand for hard times. Tell us about soem of your favorite pistolas.

I just picked up a Taurus 605 (stainless .357 w/2" barrel) for "social wear" now I need suggestions for a holster (belt type for 4 o'clock carry). So far the only ones I've tried tend to "print" as the grips stick out too far from the body. Any and all suggestions appreciated.

For field work I guess it is my nickle M57 6"
For social events, my 642 and a pair of Pythons.
And then the SAA .45 and the 1917 Smith for any occasion
and then-------
all backed up by a 1911 with a good barrel and good magazines.

Why do you try to make me choose???????????????????????????

One of my favorite wheelguns is still the old Webley MKVI in .455.

It provided a good solid punch, and was as reliable as a brick! .......And to this day, NO ONE has produced a big bore that is as fast to reload as the old Webleys!

.....And the nice thing about those 265 grain, 700 FPS loads was that you could fire the thing in low light, close quarters without rendering yourself both blind and deaf.

Maybe they were just a little funny looking; ......but if you were looking at it from "out in front", there was absolutely NOTHING funny about THAT view! (LOL)

I mourn the passing of the K-frames in .357! ....... as I do the appearance of the Clinton zit .......

But my drop dead favorite is my 629 Mountain gun ...... pre-MIM and Zit as well ......

4" S & W Model 15 .38 Special.

Been kicking around getting a Model 67 as the lower maintenance stainless guns are beginning to become attractive to me.

How about half a dozen You really like???

Lft to Rt> 6" 657, 6" 29-2, 8 3/8" pre 27, 6" FA .454 C, 629 Lt Wt Hunter, 5" 25-7 .45 Colt

These are my favorite long range pistols, as all of them are very accurate. My buddies and I do a little contest occasionally where we post a std sheet of typing paper at 100 yds and fire for group from 100 yds offhand.

Truth be known....probably my favorite revolver would be a 4" M-19 or a 6" K22 or K38.

This is the gun that saved my life 5 times and thereby saved other lives as well. It ain't fancy. No adjustable sights, no trigger job and no lasers. Plain Jane grips and standard bluing.

I had to use it and believe me people do not fall down when shot with a Lead 158 GR SWC bullet from this gun. Most of them do not realize that they have been shot. I hit a BG 6 times in the chest with this gun and he still ran by me for another 50 feet and then fell dead. It does not stop cars, explode anything nor even make a big hole in anything. It is however accurate, reliable and will work when it is needed.

I carried it for 20 years while collecting a salary from the NYC Police Department and I still have it in a drawer next to my bed. It is loaded with 158 GR LSWCHP boolits over 4.3 gr of W 231 Powder. It is in a IWB holster on a belt with 3 speedloaders full of the same load. On the same belt is a slide holder with 12 shotgun shells, a mag lite and holder and a cell telephone and holder.

Against the nitestand is a Norinco copy of the Winchester mod 97 Shotgun fully loaded with no 4 buckshot and it wears a Cutts Compensator on the end of the barrel.

I can awake and stand and put on the gunbelt and heft the shotgun and be ready to move in less than 5 seconds. I am a firm believer in the factoid: It is better to have a gun in the hand than a cop on the phone.

These precautions are sensible and WTSHTF I have many other options. This economic downturn is just starting to drive people mad and when they hit the wall you never know what people are capable of in times of desperation.

I imagine losing your home after your job goes to India. You have 15K balance on your credit cards and no way to pay anything off. You are out of options. You are about to be put on the street with nothing to protect you, your family and your posessions.

The day comes and constables evict you and your family from your house and put your stuff on the sidewalk. You are broke. What do you do?

I never leave the house without my 1911 and a pair of 10 round mags on the belt. In the console resides a few loaded mags and a couple of boxes of .45 ammo. In the compartment beneath and behind the bench seat is my SMLE loaded with 10 rounds of FMJ and another dozen or so stripper clips loaded with the same.

I have a dozen Krugerands in a belt which I wear. Someday our dollar will be worth a lot less than it is today. Look at Germany during the 20's when people took home thier salary in a wheelbarrow. Paper money is ok in good times but in bad times it becomes worthless. My savings are in firearms and gold. They will always keep their value.

Now I have to work on a Flintlock rifle and making gunpowder from common items as who knows what the almighty Obama is going to do with powder, primers and firearms.

I still shave with a badger brush and soap, use baking soda as a toothpaste and I still surrender my seat to a lady or a more elderly person on a train or bus. I am a Dinasoaur and I do not care who knows it. I treat others as I want to be treated until they show their colors and then do what has to be done as fast as I can.

I do not fight fair, I fight to win and survive but only when necessary. I am not too proud to walk away from a confrontation but you will not steal from me nor will you be allowed to molest my loved ones or good friends. http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj187/dancorrigan/IMG_5737.jpg

I will cling to my life, loved ones, bible and guns as long as I breathe.

First of all you're going to love that little revolver if it came with no QC issues. I've had one good one and one that had to go back for several months before it came back right. I have no idea your body type but what works for me in belt carry is a galco COP. It's very easily concelable under a sweatshirt or about any jacket. I wouldn't recommend it wearing a tank top or a wife beater.

My old Mod 10, 4" tapered barrel. My first "good" gun, and I still have it. I learned how to shoot with this one.

S&W mod 1905 Target Model .38 spl. So smooth and accurate, made pre-war when you still got fired if you did crappy work.

My 4-3/4" F/A .475 Linebaugh. The nicest built revolver I have ever handled. Shoots incredibly well.

4" Mod. 15 S&W .38. Probably the perfect gun for practice and plinking. Cheap to shoot, and extremely accurate. I traded a 14" Contender for this one. One of my best deals ever.

Lots more, but those come to mind first.

My all time favorite wheel gun is the one in my avatar, a S&W 629-3 4".44mag. It's never far from my side and will take care of any situation a handgun is suitable for. Shoots like a dream with the old Keith load, 250 lswc-K over 20gr. of 2400 and a standard large pistol primer.

HI,
My favorite handgun --can't , not just 1 please!
Had a ruger SBH-44 traded up for ruger RH-44,
now wish I had both, OH WELL
If I only had more cash at the time !
Had a S&W M-27 6" 357 was sweet, daughter has it now.
Had a ruger BH-357, Nice , wife has it now.

So I still enjoy a S&W K22 in 4&5/8",
A ruger RH 5&1/2" 357
A ruger RH 7&1/2" 44

For general purpose/utility, the S&W Model 686 x 4".

Crash, great post, makes sense to me. I have to say with all of the 'high speed' guns I have been issued, domestic and foreign, I still refer back to the guns I practice with most. Experts will disagree, but I like my single action Blackhawk in 45 and lever 30-30. (I know, wheelguns, I just had to put a plug in for the old girl, she deserves it.) They would have always worked for me, but their was that one night...

Right now it's a 1937 Brazilian S&W .45 ACP, it's a lot like a 1917 S&W.

.45's are easier for me to see and load and unload than .38's, especially since they are in a moon clip.

This revolver wears rubber grips and it's a great point shooter.

The load is 200 gr SWC or RNF over 4.5 gr of 231.

Life is good!

I have a number of go to guns. Most of the ones I carry on a day to day basis are the ones in my avatar. Below is a larger picture of it to better view my babies. Starting at the top left and working clockwise; HK USP .40 Fullsize, S&W 65-4 .357mag, Ruger SP101 .38spl, and a Taurus 85-UL .38spl. The Taurus and the Ruger get carried the most. And in that order. However from time to time I'll strap on the good ole HK. The S&W has been reserved for nightstand duty. Below that picture is another favorite of mine. The S&W Mod 12-2 .38spl Airweight. As you can see it was revamped into a combat pistol. And was my father's nightstand gun until he decided to give it to me some years ago after buying a Ruger P89. I carry this when I want to feel like I'm in the late 70s.

Since a young kid I had always wanted a Python but in those days there was always too much month left at the end of my money so I could never afford one.......and then all hand guns were banned in England......(just nobody told the bad guys about this last bit!)

Many years later I now live, work and shoot in France and now the 'flavour of the moment' are semi auto, million round, poly wonder guns which means revolvers are less popular so second hand values have tumbled which meant I could finally afford one after waiting 30 years!.....I bought this second hand.....it's hardly fired a shot, cylinder lock up like a bank vault and a trigger break like polished teflon!...... it was worth the wait......now I am trying to wear it out through use and not abuse.

It's only lack of money that stops me owning more favourites!

Safe shooting,

Hi MtGun44,

......and if you are lucky.....my Uberti Cattleman Quickdraw may have arrived by then........it has ''only'' been on order 3.5 months now!.......they are made in Italy......that is right next door to France.....I could have walked there and back and collected it myself in 3.5 months!!!!

The weather here right now is bright and sunny, clear, cloudless sky's and there is even some good heat in the sun......me and Mrs Limey got sun burnt laying a patio!!!.....cold and frosty in the mornings so bring a pair of thermals!

......we hope the weather stays good for you and Mrs MtGun44.......but if it does rain.....just remember......without that rain we'd have no grapes and no grapes means none of that delicious Loire Valley red wine to enjoy!.....

.....and there is an old tree trunk out on the side of the pond that is looking hornery......so maybe you could use my Python to put a few shots into it to calm it down while you are here?....

Travel safe.....me and Mrs Limey are looking forward to meeting up with you and you're better half!

Safe shooting,

When I was Sheriff of Chaffee County Colorado I carried a S&W Model 66, 2.5". It was a very accurate revolver and not bad to carry. When I changed jobs it would not meet the requirements of the new job and because of the need of money I sold it. Recently I found another almost new at Gunrunners Pawn Shop in Enid, Oklahoma. Not only is it as accurate at my earlier 66 but it has a few new refinements in its design. A great gun to carry with enough power to put the hurts on someone.

For just general all around a Smith (before the lock) 625 45 Colt 3" round butt with custom Badger cherry wood grips, shoots like a 6" barrel accuracy wise and nothing to carry.

how many have the S&W 460. I have one and ordered a buddy one 2nd time I shot it dropped a deer at 85yds. With 45 colt lead both are 10x guns. Bit heavy to CC but I look like the grandson in his butt pants

My favorite revolver right now is my 6.5" 610-2 classic. I use it for ICORE, USPSA, IPSC (when I go to British Columbia) and Steel. I've gone so far as to have a mold made specifically for loading this gun under the stress of reloading on the clock. I picked up a 610-3 as a backup that still needs to be shot a lot and then worked on.

6" SS GP-100. Crude to some but I haven't found a load it won't ingest and put right where I want it.

Well my favorite pistols are my 1851 Navy Arms Frontiersmen in 36 cal. I use them in Cowboy Action Shooting and they are great fun. Course I don't carry them while out and about. My favorite wheelguns to carry are my S&W model 10 and my j-frame.
But I hve this great Pietta 1860 Army with a snubnose and an R&D conversion cylinder in it that shoots 45 Colt!
