pull the trigger

Ever wanted to be able to change your choke on a fixed choke barrel? Me too!! So I posted an ad on our excellent site and low and behold, a gentleman here had one to sell me. Perfect! Today I tried it out.
First step was to ream out the barrel. This does several things. The bottom of the hole ends up undercut to allow the choke to seat in such a fashion, the load will pass over the seam without catching. The middle is now the correct size to tap, and the top is oversized so the threads of the choke pass thru to the threads in the middle. I used a 1/2" drive 3/8" Allen socket with the Allen end chucked into a cordless drill. The 1/2" square drive end fit on the ream drive perfectly. Ran the drill on low with lots of lube, only ever spin clockwise.
Next was the tap. You have to turn it in, short of the bottom of the freshly reamed seat at the bottom, so the choke still seats perfectly, and all the way down.
Cleaned everything out, screwed in a choke, beautiful.
This is the abbreviate version, there was a learning curve.
Now I can do the rest of my barrels too. Don't be afraid to try it yourselves!!!
