Have a BFR 500 JRH on the way. Plan is to have Accurate cut a 325 grain gas check mold for a BIG meplat that I can run with 16 BHN Hardball. Penetration deep enough to get through pigs easily but will create some big holes.

I have A2400 on hand for my 45 colt loads. Based on 475 L and 50 AE data it looks like to get to ~1300 fps I would be looking at 22-25 grains? Not sure if anyone with QL can run this for me to get me a starting point. Any other insights or load help is appreciated. I think 2400 for the power band I am hoping to work within is the right choice.

Thanks

I have a BFR in 500JRH and quickload.
What I'll need is your bullet length and the loaded length. I mostly shoot 400s and 440s in mine.
A 325 at 1300 should be more than enough for hogs. Should be easy on the hands too.

I'm not sure what your barrel length will be on the new 500JRH, so I put in for a 6.5" barrel
I measured one of my fired cases at 55gn H20
Accurate has a 50-325F that is .650" long with a .300" nose, so I used that info.
With Alliant 2400 powder- 24.4gns 1300fps @ 22kpsi 74% load density.
So it should be a fairly quiet load compared to something running 48kpsi.

Here's some published load data that might be useful.

And a pic of my 500JRH just because.

Hope this helps

Lar45, I am heading to the range tomorrow for another ladder test. This time it will be with the Montana Bullet works 350 WFNGC at 22,23,24,and 24.5 grains of A2400. My starting point a few weeks ago with this same 350 grain bullet at 21 and 22 grains of A2400 yielded excellent accuracy, low sdevs, and average velocities of 1175 and 1240 fps respectively out of my 7.5” (barrel is actually 8.1”) BFR. OALs are 1.755. Easy extractions as expected. I’ll report back on tomorrows ladder test once completed. I absolutely love this cartridge/gun combo.
