Got this cartridge and I want to rechamber my M4 wannabe for it. A few questions;

Can I use a cast bullet?

Will a spitzer shaped cast bullet work?

Will I need GCs?

Will the 7" twist stabilize the cast bullet at 9,500 fps?

Will COWW alloy work if I HT it?

How about PC?

Anyone know where i can get cases with SR primer pockets?

Reminds me of reading Skeeter Skelton articles every month. I think it was "Jug Head" that had a similar wildcat varmint cartridge in one of his stories.

Would it be better to ream a 22lr chamber to fit the cartridge, or would a 22 magnum be a better starting point?
Do you think chamber wall thickness may be a problem?
I think that cartridge would be even better if there was an Ackley Improved version.

Not enough powder capacity!

So how much IMR4227 to get 3500 fps??? :)

That will need special magazine to make it feed properly.

The velociraptor varmint bullet. Should be an interesting build. Looking forward to watching your progress. Please post photos. I would use cast depleted uranium for your projectiles. Maybe a titanium gc but I’m not sure. And a plus as the glowing makes it easy to load in the dark.

Completely full and compress the 53 gr V-max right on top of it!

Won’t even need hearing protection!

Good one Larry. I remember back in the late 60's when the M16 was getting rave reviews someone with a sense of humor made up a cartridge that was a .50 ma deuce necked down to .22 with a 55 grain fmj bullet. I thought it was hilarious. james

Be careful which direction you shoot that, shoot it only either direct north, or direct south. My concern is it either going forwards or backwards in time, and the only way to prevent it is to shoot it longitudinally.

Is that a .22 BMG?

Pure lead only, it will bump up easy to fill the rifling!
Blaze orange PC, so you can see it going down range, you know like a tracer!

Bond Arms makes a derringer for the cartridge. I usually load with 300gr of Bullseye for short barrel use.

Similar in design to the XP .04-50 that Ed Hall showcased in Handloader #117. The .04 steel sewing machine needles seemed to hold up well but barrel life was a problem.

It would make an excellent 2 mile Jackalope round. Leading should not be a problem with high linotype blends. Unfortunately the under bore design may give cycling problems on the AR platform. ;)

Larry: I believe you have a great wildcat! If Frank Barnes was still alive it might make it into his Wildcat category! Think it will make 5000 fps??? Think about this: The international space station travels over 18,000 fps !!!!!

Use liquid pure nitro propellant. No drop tube needed!

I built one of those years ago. Couldn't make it work. I developed a horrible flinch while trying to use it due to the fact that the bullet would strike the target before I pulled the trigger. Sat in the back of the safe for a long time until a time cop from the 29th century met me in the local gun store and bought it from me to take back with him. I heard him mumbling something about hunting borg on Jupiter (or maybe it was one of the moons).

I'm trying to recall the powder recipe for Jug Head's new cartridge. I believe it was a half-and-half mixture of firecracker powder blended with ground up kitchen match heads. He also noted that the blue match heads gave the cartridge more "zip" than the red match heads.

On an M4 I believe you may need to tweak the mag lips a bit.

It may require a compressed load.....

You can just solder a few SR primers together to fit the pocket. You may have to use a brad hammer on them to get it perfectly round.

I just happen to have this for my Savage action...
I don't have any dies for it, but I've never let that stop me before!

Safe bet that after the bullet leaves the barrel, hot gasses will continue to blow for 3 to 5 seconds.

You can probably find those dies easily down at the lgs. They’ll be on the shelf next to the $10 bricks of primers…
