I got my hands on a few cast boolits that I will be loading for my Freedom Arms Model 83 in .357. I have H110, but none of my reloading manuals contain loads using cast.

Could a friendly soul please check The Lyman Cast Manual :drinks:?
(Yes I have ordered the book but have not yet recieved it)

It's a 180gr TC GC boolit. I'll be using H110, Starline brass, small rifle primer and a COL of 1.685"

Hogdon's data is available on line HERE (http://data.hodgdon.com/main_menu.asp) The 180 gr. data is for jacketed bullets, but it will give you enough info to get started A lot more info here (http://www.handloads.org/loaddata/default.asp?Caliber=357%20Magnum&Weight=All&type=Handgun&Order=Powder&Source=)

Lee's "Modern Reloading" lists a 180 grain bullet (does not specify lead or jacketed) with a max load of 13.5 grains of H110 and an OAL of 1.540" giving 37600 CUP. Brass and barrel length are not given.
Michael.

Gunslinger,

I am shooting the 358429 (170-173 grains) from a Security-Six with 15.0 grains of H-110. The velocity from this 6" barrel is average 1247 fps. It is very accurate. It is interesting that 14.0 grains of this powder and the same bullet only produces average 997 fps. It is obvious that pressure builds quickly!

So, the 13.5 grains as maximum for a 180 grainer is probably most correct.

Yeah, but that 170g boolit at 997 is the equiv. of being hit by a cannon ball
