My new Takedown CVA 45-70 likes heavy cast slugs, the 540 RN grain plain base bullets shot just under 1400 fps over the chrony today, the gc 440 grainers shot 1627 fps.
The first shot with the 540's on a target at 75 yds was a bullseye, it was not a long distance shot but I was not expecting a bullseye first shot.
I have 300 more of these beer keg size bullets on order.
Our hunting season is over here, I am already planning for the spring bear season.

My 45/70's are also capable of one shot 0.000" groups

With that kind of accuracy, you are good to go for squirrel season. Just remember to head shoot them or you will ruin too much meat.

That nice that they will shoot. Mine like the 405 lee. I shot a heavy j word with a bore rider nose. It was a no go. You like bp or smokeless?

If ya ever get to casting your own, you may want to try the Lee 340 grainer PCed.

Save yourself some lead casting that boolit too!
