I have a new Lyman 358429 mould that is dropping at 355. Any suggestions on what I can do to get them up to atleast 358. They are not even touching on my sizing die.

Will the same alloy in a different mold cast the diameter the mold is supposed to be?

I've had problems with some molds and/or the alloy being a bit cold and the bullets coming out small even though they look good. Once heated up they seem to do alright.

The only other thing I would suggest since it's a new mold would be to mic the holes and see what that tells you.

If it is brand new, consider sending it back to Lyman.

If it's that far off I would send it back to Lyman.

ID the problem to see if it's the mold and if so, send it back. Why would you buy a brand new mold then go and buy shim stock and then have to work it over to make an elliptical boolit, even if they work?

I agree with Paladin 56....Make sure it's the mould, then ship it off to Lyman posthaste with a letter of complaint explaining the problem.

What alloy are you using? Some alloys cast smaller bullets than others. Pure lead in an already undersized mould could give you small bullets.

If you send it back to Lyman, be prepared to wait. I sent one back in Dec.2 to have it replaced because the bullets were casting too small. Received a replacement on Dec. 24. The replacement cast bullets that were even smaller than the first mold. Called and sent it back Dec. 31. Still waiting on the second replacement. All bullets were cast from Lyman#2 alloy.

Beagling is just one way of taking care of an undersized mold. The other way is "Leementing" And will keep your uniformity when it comes to being round. I just Leemented one of my 9mm molds, afterwards I pushed one through the .358 sizer, and it gave it nice square corners on the Tumble Lube driving bands. So I'm guessing it is now .360 or larger. This started out at a .356.

So if its new, send it back. If its old, take a look at Leementing as well as Beagling.
