Half Jackets

Not sure where to post this so I landed here.

I (somehow) have acquired a bunch of half jackets for various calibers.

I assume you all know what I'm talking about, old school stuff that looks like the empty cup from the old half jacket bullets they used to sell.

Anyway, are these useful for anything? What can a boy do?

Go look in the Bullet Swaging section. They are valuable to those guys.

Haven't seen any half jacket stuff in years. Most of what I have seen over the years is left over stuff from the 70s. Maybe early 80s... Somebody will want them...but probably more as a cheap collectible of what used to be the norm...

I got a bunch of them loaded as shot capsules in a trade once.

I think the most accurate bullet that I have ever shot in my old Flat Top Blackhawk .44 mag. was a Speer 225 gr. HP half jacket. Could cover the hole with a nickel at 25 yards. It was a good deer killing bullet as well in both my handgun and my 94 Win. .44 mag.

I had mostly quit shooting store bought bullets by the time Speer stopped making the half jackets, but did think about trying my hand at swaging some. Never got around to it though.

The old Speer 146 grain HP was the most accurate bullet I ever loaded in my 357's back in the 70's and 80's. I am sure that somebody has a set of dies for a Corbin press that will welcome the opportunity to purchase your find.

The first box of bullets I ever purchased for reloading were 158 gr. half-jacketed made by Speer, back around 1966. Shortly after leaving the barrel most of them seemed to have separated, as I'd find the jackets lying on the ground somewhere between the firing line and the target, and accuracy was poor. That soured me so badly that I've never purchased any more.

I consulted my files and see a box loaded with a 160 gr. half jacket, but no name, maybe they were Sierra.
