Remington SPPs ?

Been wondering for a while now. What is the difference between Remington 1 1/2 and 5 1/2 primers?

I think the 1 ½ are for lower pressure cartridges, 32 long, 38 special, etc and 5 ½ are for 357 magnum, and other magnum pressured cartridges. I would have to look back through my older manuals to find out for sure, but that is my recollection.

I do not know my Remington primer numbers but what you are saying makes no sense. 357 Magnum uses small pistol primers; 44 Magnum uses large pistol primers. Those are not the same number.

Fixed it. I apologize, just refering to magnum pressured cartridges without regard to the fact that I referenced 44 [lpp).

I know the 1½s are soft. I load them in my 300 blackout for subsonic loads and the firing pin impression is deeper than on any other pistol primers I have used.

Yeah, the 1 1/2 is for lower pressure than the 5 1/2. I don't know any specific number on that pressure however. I just bought 10,000 1 1/2's for loading 38 Special because I already had near that number of WW SPP that work for higher pressure cartridges that I load such as 40 S&W or the 45ACP SPP cases I have. Or if I decide to start loading 9mm again.
