.400 Whelen

I got a Email a bit ago
A friend just got a used .400 Whelen rifle
He was wondering if I could cast him some bullets
Some 300 or 350 gr and a lighter bullet for his son to help "Control" the pop can population

I can borrow a 220 gr Saeco GC .411 mold that I used to own for my 7 1/2" with rings 41 Mag Ruger Red Hawk ( Bad move to sell it )


For the rifle mold , I will see what he bullet he plans on
And find a mold some what close to that weight

My question would the Saeco mold work OK for a light weight plinking bullet ?

I would definitely try that bullet. What make of rifle? I think a Springfield 1903 conversion would be the cat's meow. It would a lot like my 40-65 and 40-70 st and my 40-70 BN and my 40-90 BN.

If the diameter is right, the issue I would potentially foresee would be feed related.
I have used pistol bullets in 35 Whelen Imp built on M98, and there have been feed issues w/ short and/or sharp noses. Otherwise, they shot well.
This is a reduced loading question I presume.

I used a 235 gr .413 boolit from a mold I bought on this sight a long time ago to fireform my brass for my .400 Whelen.
It loaded out of the magazine and shot very well.
I would do it again in a heartbeat.

If he is just controlling pop cans, that bullet, if it's the right diameter, should be just fine.
