having to drill my vernier rear aperture out another eight thou...:

Oh yea, it was always a bit shady at 0.050” and it just was getting intolerable as the last few years went by. Well at 0.058” it’s no longer appears filled with cobwebs and lint.

Well at least I can enjoy shooting the .38-55 HiWall clone again.

I can relate to that. Had to open up the aperture in my 1874 sight as well. It tuff getting old in more ways than one.

I use Hadley style eye cups, just because it varies day to day depending on shooting conditions, and my eyes. Being able to adjust aperture size easily allows me to have the right size for that day.

That is the way to go! It’s more convenient than changing out fixed apertures too.

On my 40xb .22 I put a merit adjustable. I wish I bought more of those. Granted the Hadley type is more period correct for the old single shots.

Aperture filled with lint? Might be time to visit the eye doctor. I had a cataract removed a year ago and the "lint" disappeared from my apertures!

Merit, Hadley, or any aperture that can be easily changed are all great. I have several different brands, and like them all.

Glad you got relief!

Astigmatism for a long long time and cataract just starting in my shooting eye. I have been fighting with scleritis, an erosion of the eye from the inside so for the last 3-4 years have been to eye doctors and retina specialists and an immunologist to boot. I could have bought a Sharps rifle with all the co pays.

Even 15 years ago a NM AR15 with an 0.040” hood was too small. Saw the “lint” then unless it was perfectly bright and sunny out. I was actually trying to blow it out and poke it out even though I couldn’t see it when I was focused on the sight instead of peering through it. :-(
