Well this is one GB mold I've not seen much in the way of reports, especially it's use in the 44mag rifles. I've just cast 100+ which I water dropped to use in my Rossi M92 Clone. Any data of what worked for you will be greately appreciated. Right now I'm think of starting with about 12.5grs of Unique, but I'm open to any ideas you may have. It's certainly time to start using this boolit.

FWIW, I have both the PB & GC molds, but this loading will be with the plain base version. Mucho thanks,

Rick

My rifle is different, it has the microgroove barrel.

With the PB version, I have been using 9.0 Unique for a very pleasant plinker load. Sized .433.

Any idea as to the velocity? Is the 9grs enough to bump the boolit up to fill the bore? I'm assuming that you're using straight wheelweights. I'll load a couple with the 9.0grs tomorrow to see what happens.

Thanks,

Rick

I have not had a chance to chrono, but I am thinking about 1400. My bullets are sized .433, so they are filling the bore.

Reloaders Reference shows a velocity of 1715fps (215gr boolit, mine weigh 212) with 14.0grs of Unique, that's why I picked 12.5 as a starting point. I loaded a few last night at 9.0 & 9.5 which I'll shoot this afternoon. Thanks for the tip.

Rick,

I have not done a lot of experimenting with my rifle and bullets yet. Please let me know how you come out with yours.

My rifle has the 1-38 twist, so I am not sure how fast I can push things.

Also, I am happy with this as a plinker - small game gun - knock around gun. I have a 444 if I need to thump something.

When I said I had loaded a few, I meant very few, like 3 of each:) It'll be a couple weeks or more before I can get serious with it. Plinking & paper punching is all I do anymore except for the occasional Pecan Thief which I take with a 16ga or 22.

Good afternoon
In my 44-40 Winnys I am using 8 grains Unique with a SOFT 220 grain (7.5 bhn) as a plinker and 9 grains as the "walk about" load. The 44-40 will give a bit less velocity than 44 mag... but there is no 80 pound wild dog that can stop a 220 grain with 9 grains Unique. Complete penetration and an exit woulnd about pingpong ball size.
My twist is 1-36 and I have nver had any leading even using 10 grains Unique. Lube is 55-45% Beeswax and bearing grease.
With a 44 and SOFT 210 + grain boolit you do not need alot of POWER to cause serious damage.

Good evening Mike. What lead mixture do you use to getthe 7.5 bhn? How fast have you pushed a bullet that hard befor you started getting leading? I am just starting to get into casting, so i have a lot of beginner questions!!!
