Winchester Pistol Primer mystery

This happened to me in a Winchester 94AE .44 magnum rifle with Winchester primers. Exactly same scenario. I posted about this a couple of years ago. Primer leaks looked exactly the same on my fired cases.

Now comes the evidence and solving of the mystery. At least now I know it was not my loading or some some fault of my procedures. Just putting this out here so others may have had had the same problem.

Me, too. i have pock marks in the bolt faces of two rifles from LR primers.

Winchester offered to have a new bolt fitted to my rifle, but there were no visible marks and the bolt functions normally. So I thanked them and declined.

They reimbused me for the cost of my wilson combat ar10 lightweight BCG, but I had two of the last 6 loads of my 7saum ammo rupture in my Stiller Tac 300. I didn't realize they were Winchester at the time. I have not made a claim regarding the Stiller bolt amd will not. Should have double checked my records. I had loaded (and shot) 600-700 out of a 5k case.

I got some etching on my Win. 94AE bolt face also.

I never contacted Winchester....at the time I didn't think it would do any good. My dumbness!:roll:

I pulled a bunch of bullets out of the cases, de-primed and threw a couple hundred primers in the garbage.

I had occasional edge splitting on WLR primers as well, and most usually w/ what I believed should have been under max loads -- Lot Number DGL742G

The videos and stories were interesting, and make me happy I have NEVER had a Winchester Primer over the last 50 years; I have only used CCI and Remington.

Course; all my home remanufactured primers could fail after many loadings (Currently going on 15 times refilling Primer Cups); and I could experience the same through Primer Cup failures due to too many remanufacture cycles.

My brother and I had the same problem but with Remington 9-1/2 primers in the late 1970s.
Switching to CCI and Winchester solved it.
Funny that I’m still using Rem 9-1/2Magnum primers from then- and they’ve never leaked.

Texas, I guess it doesn't hurt anything as long as it doesn't go to far, but to me it is about like getting that first big dent on your on your vehicle......Son of a biscuit!!!!!:groner:

There were some Federal 210M's that did the same 30 years back. They replaced the product and repaired bolt faces to those affected by the blow by issue.

I dont guess that would apply to WLP primers from30 Years ago ?
I still have a 100 of the Large Pistol and a 100 of the Small Pistol,
I guess that they are still good?

If the Winchester Brand is having problems sounds like I should switch brands to start Loading 44 Special for a Rossi Stainless Carbine with 16 inch barrel and for the same gun but in 38 Special.

Is CCI Standard a Good alternative for Low velocity 44 Special and Low velocity 38 Special using HP-38 and CFE Pistol ?
