I have a lb of Win 760, can I use this for .32ws under a RD323-170gc in a 94 Win.
Anyone have a starting load?

I doubt that you'll find anyone willing to give you a load for a powder in this class.
You could extrapolate a load by going to the Lyman 45th ED, looking up the loads for 30-30 w/jacketed, doing a comparison to the same in 32Sp, calculate the average % diff. between the 2 and adjusting a starting load from that.
There's also soft ware that'l give answers to those kinds of questions. I don't have that. Personally, I'd do this ONLY as a last resort. It's a waste of good powder.
Please try to NOT blow something up.

I doubt if you could get in trouble with a full case of 760 under a 170 in the 32 WS. But you could start with 30-30 data. Lyman #45 shows start of 32 gr. and max of 36 gr. for 2133 fps and 38,600 CUP. Hodgdon #26 shows start of 35 gr. and max of 37 gr. for 2254 and 37,700 CUP.

Winchester 760 is too slow for a 32 WS. It barley works in the 308 Win with the J words. It will work wonders in a 30-06 size case. I have in the last 12 years burnt nearly 10 lbs of the stuff. It is not one of my favorite powders but it will work for some things. Just my 2 cents worth. You may find it will shoot well in your 32 WS give it a try.

Best wishes from the Boer Ranch,

Joe

Just took my Marlin 1949 vintage 336A in 32 Special out for trip to the range yesterday and had some great results with the RCBS 32-170 cast from 10:1 , sized to .321", and lubed with Red Zambini. 16.0 grains of 2400 turned in the best groups that measured under an inch at 50 yards with iron sights (Williams reciever sight, factory front sight).

I just looked in my 1995 Winchester manual. It lists a 32 Special load using 748 but nothing for 760. I like 760 in military numbers like 765, 7.7, 8MM etc. Good powder but way to slow for 32 Special.

30-30 data for equal weight/style boolit will yield lower pressure. Work up to smallest group and call it good. Speeds in the 3031 range usually work well for optimum velocity. Ball powders need to run with some pressure to be consistent. I had good result with 844 and RCBS 32-170-FN, but pushed'em pretty good. Look on castpics.

corvette8n,
Give a capacity load of 760 (approx 36-37 grs) a try. I think that you will find that it will work aok and develop at least 2,000 f.p.s. which is just about right if you are using an alloy of about 15 -18 b.h.n.

760 may be just a bit slow (not way too slow) for max. 32 W.S. loads but may just be ideal for your purposes.:-D

Please let us know how it worked for you.

Contrary to what most are saying here, Win 760 gives cast bullets a very gentle push in cases like the 30-30, and .32 Special. It is one of Ed Harris' favorites in the 30-30. It might even work well with the heavier plain based boolits. Ed's load for the 30-30 was in the high 20 grain range, perhaps 27 grains. I doubt that you would experience danger in using this powder as long as you stayed above 80 percent of case capacity in your loads. I'm pretty sure that Win 760, and Hodgdon 414 are the same if that helps.

Yep, I'm interested in your results, also. I've tried slower ball powders, and while they worked, they left too much trash in the barrel, more than likely from not high enough pressure.

WCF has it right for 32-30. NH has it right for 30-30, but I would boost it up to 32 grains when using nominal 180 grainers, 30 grains for the 200. H335 is the prefered powder speed for the 32-30 as used by Sundog on Castpics. ... felix
