Messing around today I found some ugly pulled bullets that I decided to load and shoot to be rid of them….only 11 of them, so I broke out the .223 Lee Loader for the task.
I noticed that the primer base apparently doesn’t have a spring under the washer- unlike my other Lee Loaders.
Is this self repairable or should I let Lee know about it?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20231018/dd63e18c7ed4598162cfbc1d34f911ab.jpg
It works as is, but not as well as all the other LL’s that I’ve used in the past.

The real problem might be getting the disc out to replace a spring. You might have to buy a replacement unit from Lee. I am guessing here but it might be easier to detonate a prime while seating without the spring. james

I used Federal SR primers and seated all eleven without getting a charred blood blister…
But yes, the spring centers things up better.
It looks like it was shipped without one-I’ll tell Lee about it.
The Varget load using the included scoop was too mild to function my AR- but all eleven landed in a 3” group at 100 yards.
They were 60 gr Hornady soft points, a bullet that never shot as well as others for me.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20231018/a870b65069b7eb1828535999165be7a6.jpg

I’ve never figured out if it is really a spring inside or a compressible rubber washer. Either way LEE will replace it. On some occasions they just send a new one, other times they charge for shipping.

My favorite solution to this problem is the earliest Lee Custom era hand priming tool (no auto feed). This is my answer to most priming questions! :)

And they sent a correctly “sprung” one to me at no charge; thanks Lee!
