Hello everybody, I picked up a small case of 7.62x39 ammo from the neighbor, 540 rounds in an opened steel can, no markings on the can.
It's steel core in a copper washed steel case. The head stamp is 31 65

I'm guessing Chinese or Russian and probably corrosive...
Any guesses?

I believe that it is of Chinese manufacture - the extraction groove should be black. Yes, it is corrosive from the little that I have seen.

Edit - found this.

I agree with Cwtebay, looks Chinese. Both the ammo and the ammo can. All Chinese stuff I've every encountered was corrosive. No issue so long as you clean your rifle accordingly. In my experience the Chinese x39 ammo was decent stuff. Super cheap at the time it was imported.

Being chinese, I would assume it's corrosive, even if it weren't. Personally, I would pull every bullet and make some mexican match, with the powder, projectiles and some new brass.

Not all Chinese 7.62x39 ammo imported here was corrosive. But ALL of the non-corrosive ammo was commercially boxed and labelled as non-corrosive. If it comes packed on SKS strippers like that, merely wrapped in paper,...yes,...it is indeed corrosive.
