I have a 6 cavity Lee mold GB copy of Lyman's 358627 215 gr. Keith bullet. I'm considering having the gas check shank removed on three of the cavities. What do you guys think? I use the bullet in a .357 Max pistol and I'm not sure if I really NEED the gaschecks, and with the cost of gaschecks where they are, I think I might do it. Just wanted some input/opinions. Thanks for your help!

Selmer, you can do just one cavity. If it doesn't work out you still have a five cavity mold that will put out plenty of boolits. If it does work out, do more cavities...Ray

last couple weeks I have been shooting a Mountain Mold 255 gr .41 with out the gc and it does as well as without at least at 25 yards -- no leading and very good groups -- -- you might leave as is and see how it does and then you could use or not use

never had much luck with accuracy converting molds to plain base.

OTOH, I drilled out my LEE C309-113F successfully.

Like Ray says above, if I were in your shoes I'd check it out w/o GC's, and then drill just one cavity to see how it works before doing all cavities. There's no going back.

Thanks for the opinion Lloyd, your may carry more weight than anyone's for me, it was your cast boolits I shot first out of any of my guns!

With the cost of lee moulds vs lathe/milling machine set up time (that = $s) and the fact that the GB mould is limited and it's not like you can just order another one out of Midway's. I would just get a Saeco 200 gr #351 (available from Midway) mould and leave the 6 holer as is. Then you have the best of both without potentially ruining the 6 hole Lee mould.

A LYMAN 2 cavity 358627 sold for $100 today. I paid close to that for the LEE clone on the site benefit auction....got a good mould and helped out the site; everyone won on that one! I'd buy another mould in plain base and take good care of what you have.

I shoot my lee 310 gr .429Fn boolits with out GC's. They are made for GC's, I just don't put them on. Try shootin some without and see how they do.

hello, I've been shooting a 429215 gc boolet cast out of WW since about 1974 without the GC in my 44's with good results, they will shoot better than I can hold
my SBH & S&W's..so I agree with the suggestion of trying your boolet first with out the GC, it works for me and saves $$$ IMHO..S.L.45/70
