Cleaning a box of rifle cartridges

Any thoughts on how to remove a bit of tarnish on a box of cartridges? I do not want to tumble loaded rounds and looking for a way to hand clean.

I use a Lee case trimmer shell holder to do it. I put the cartridge holder in a hand held electric drill. Put the round in the shell holder and spin it while holding the body of the cartridge with 0000 steel wool. Clean up quickly.

+1 on the 0000 steel wool, then a buffing with Flitz polish and a rag to get that mirror gleam.

I'm a simple guy. Chuck them in my drill and hold a pinch of 0000 steel wool around them while they spin. Turn end-for-end, then back in the box.

I have tumbled 1000's of loaded rounds, rifle and pistol, straight wall, bottle necked, brass and nickel cases, spire point, ballistic tipped, exposed lead, WC, RN, etc., jacketed and cast bullets, with zero failures (neither FTF nor inadvertent discharge). Tumbling is less work (for you), less heat-forming, and gentler (imo) on the contents than steel wool and a drill. Twenty minutes should do it and don't overload the tumbler. Either method "disturbs" the powder, knocking it around, as does decades of transportation (think war surplus ammo).

What has not been done is any extensive point of aim and felt recoil "testing" of before and after tumbling (or drilling).

1 box? Yeah, cloth with brass polish on it like I would add to media vibratory cleaner. Won't take long. Probably take longer to find a Lee trimmer case holder.

I use stuff called Prism Metal POlish. Put some on the metal and wipe of vigorously...works great. You can find it on Amazon, 7 oz Jar that will ast you a life time for about $22. Great stuff! You can use it on a lot of things, including your car headlights. Bill

I would think that the ammonia in the Brasso could damage the integrity of the cartridge case.

The steel wool and powered case trimmer sounds like a good idea. I always did it by hand with scotch brite.

You are right :-D do not use anything with ammonia.
I have made the brasso mistake .

Don: I have been cleaning up a big box of .30-06 loaded ammo I friend gave me. I have been using my buffer with a wheel made of Scotch Brite pads stacked 4 deep. I can do one in about 15 seconds just spinning it by hand.
