It is a pinfire cartridge, is it not?

Yes, the Lefaucheux is indeed a pin fire.

Here's a nice cross section of a pinfire: http://www.xs4all.nl/~bertock/page26/page29/index.html .

It's a beauty, and it would be a shame to ruin the historical value by modifying it to center fire.
I think of all the Webley break top .455 revolvers that have been ruined by turning them down to accomodate .45 ACP or Auto Rim...

My book says pinfire and the 1986 value (Old book.) was $300.
Just spelling it makes it a value! :drinks:

Snatch it up if you can get it for a good price. The revolver in the picture certainly is not a pinfire. Do you know manufactured the revolver? The exterior lines resemble the Pryse or Webley-Pryse but the latch certainly doesn't look like a Pryse. It could possibly be a variant but is more lekely a European knockoff. Either way, you should be able to find a case to get it shooting. If nothing is available just call the boss at Rocky Mountain Cartridge. Within minutes he can have his computer programed and in a few minutes you will have brass that probably fit the chamber better than the original. Good Luck! Neil
