anyone have cast bullet experience in the 952

I sure did lust after one when they came out.. Kindly pricey though! I have a S&W M52 wadcutter gun that is just amazing but I couldn't justify putting that much more money in the 952. I'd sure love to hear your experiences with it though!

shot a couple informal ppc rounds with it yesterday. I was using winc. white box condom ammo because i still havent got a sizer for the bullets and wanted to try the gun. I shot one perfect 300 and a 297 Now before you think im some great shot these rounds were shot with no pressure all by myself. But for comparison i shot two rounds with the old reliable gold cup witch is a 1.5 inch at 25 yard gun and shot about normal a 293 and a 295 so the gun is definatly a shooter and im real curious to see what its capable of with cast and some load developement im betting its a sub one inch gun. Had a great experience with the custom shop. I called trying to get a part no. for a wolf replacement spring and talked a while with there custom shop guy and hes sending me springs for free and is even sending me an extended mag release free. Custom shop seems to take alot of pride in there guns.

I am relieved that yours is shooting well. A buddy who owns a gun shop sold a used one for a customer who claimed poor accuracy. I will get one eventually.

shot it again today and shot probably the best ive ever shot. This guns a shooter i hope you get one as good. By the way ive put 500 rounds of whitebox winchester through it without a single burp. Aint much of a test as its jacketed hardball and it had better feed it. But ive had guns that didnt even feed hardball well.

If that pistol were mine, I would NOT shoot anymore jacketed bullets in it. A long ago and far away I was a serious IPSC shooter (back when it was a "Martial Art" not a game gun paradise). A .45acp's barrel would last about 5000 rounds with jacketed bullets. Ray Chapman had a .45 that he had shot close to 200,000 rounds of cast through the original barrel and it was still going strong. I put 75,000 rounds (cast only) thru my barrel in five years. I still have it and it still shows no sign of wear.

If you have a blue ribbon hand gun (and it sounds like you do) you might consider this. Just a "heads up".

Dale thats what i intend on doing. I just havent got the conversion for the square deal or the sizer for the star yet. Ive got about 3000 bullets casted and ready and buckets of brass. I use to have everything but figured id never be loading 9s again. A guy should never sell reloading gear.

I know guys who have worn out 38 super barrels, takes about 70,000 of jacketed in a good barrel.

I don't doubt your story, but perhaps the barrel was of questionable quality to start with.

If somebody has the bucks to buy jacketed and wear out a pistol barrel, they shurely have the bucks to get a new one.

Bullets 70 X 50 = $3500
Primers 70 X 15 = $1050
12 jugs powder = $1300
New 38 super brass $300-400
Springs, sears, hammers.....
Gotta figure $6K on ammo, another $300 for a fitted barrel is a drop in the bucket.


Lloyd, good choice on a top shelf gun to start with. I bought a SA 9mm 1911 and put 2000 rounds through 2 different factory fit barrels before dropping the bucks to fit a Nowlin myself. For the same money I could have just bought an STI. From the scores you're shooting allready, it sounds like the accuracy and ergonomics match up to you very well. Playing at that level, ergonomics are important.
