I'm getting a Lyman 45 from a guy off of a different forum. I'd like your opinions on what would be the 'better' lube to use in a non-heated lubsizer that will reside in a basement, usually never over 75deg F. This will be for .45 Colt, .45acp, .38spl, and some .357Mag loads.

Click on Lar45's LsStuff on the bottom of this page. Carnauba Red is really hard to beat. Must be heated in cool weather. It's the only lube I use.

I really like the White Lable lube company's lube called BAC. It is a blend of two of their most popular lubes. They mix their Carnuba red and 50/50. It is a way to get the best attributes of both lubes and it doesn't require a lube heater. I just bought 6 sticks from them through the mail and will buy more when I need it. It's also very reasonably priced @ $1.35/stick in plastic bags.

Others may have different suggestions, but this lube works the best for me as I also lube in a chilly basement "man cave"!

Good Luck,

A light bulb will provide more than enough heat to get Lar's Carnauba Red to flow on even the coldest day. I'm running that in one of my 45's right now. If you are morally opposed to even that heat, than Bullshop's Speed Green would be a good choice. I hate Alox lubes, even though they are very effective.

Ok, thanks for the tips. I'll probably try the Carnuba Red and use a 100w incandescant(if I can find one in this flourescent world) if it's too cold for it to move easy.

On the other hand why don't you try some of Lar's White Label Lubes. :-D

Seriously, Lars has a fine product.

BAC will work for all your loads and you can forget the bulb.

Javelina is all I use. When it's 110 outside it flows like butter. Down in the 30's it starts to get somewhat stiffer but is still doable without a heater.

A small halogen desk lamp with a flexible arm works good. I make my own lubes. I tailor them to my needs. Try Felix lube.

Javelina or LARs BAC.

Any of the 50/50 lubes should be entirely suitable for the calibers that you listed and should not require any heating. I started with Javelina brand many years ago, then switched to Hornaday Alox. I have now switched to Lars White Label, 50/50. It is every bit as effective as the other brands and is much, much cheaper. Neil

I recently made some felix lube. Although I cannot attest to how the end product will work, I can report that it does flow out of a 45 Ideal without any heat applied.
