I am looking for OAL load differences between the two crimp grooves for this Boolit.
Everything I can find from Hadgdon, Lyman, Or Lee only give one OAL and it seems to be the longer OAL.

Looking for starting data for H110 at the shorter OAl of 1.570" for the Lee 452-300-RF GC, It seems like everything that I see on the forums just gives a load no OAL..
I am assuming that .070" seating depth has to make a difference at H110 Ruger only pressures. Not looking for max just a starting point or any solid data anyone may be using.

Like mentioned in the title I want to use the same load in my Blackhawk large frame & Rossi in 45 Colt so will need to be good for both, as the Rossi requires the shorter length.

Thanks

Not much responce here, so I tinkered with the Rossi 92 carrier and got the Lee 452-300 RFN to feed reliably at the longer OAL. I did not want to modify the Rossi as parts are not easy to come by, but it is what it is.

With the shallow crimp groove I decided to use a Lee collet crimp die and set it for a full crimp. I loaded with a OAL of 1.635" The boolits are from Matt's Boolits and are .775" long.
Started at 21 grains of H110 and loaded 20 of each 21, 21.5, & 22 grains. I see where some load up to 24 grains but I think I am good at 22.

Using the GRT software Similar to Quick load, it shows that I should be at 28,000 psi and close to 1120 fps from a 5.5" barrel. I don't think it allows for a barrel cylinder gap so I could be as low as 1000 fps? My BC gap is .003". My Chrono was not working may have taken a drop or two in the past, so when I replace it I'll figure out where I am at. Brass and primers look good, and cases extract fine.

Anyone else shooting a 5.5" blackhawk in 45 colt loaded long with the Lee 452-300 RFNGC?

I did a 350 , just a little too long for the 1-32" twist in 2 M92' Rossi's . 250-265's gained about 200-220 fps , unfortunately at transonic aerodynamic upset became a problem. My single attempt with the 350 and H322 should have been about 21,000 psi at1280 fps MV the remainder ran a very sedate 600 fps in the 7.5" RBH .

I have since dabbled with a 300 gr Bear Creek TC that holds some potential making round holes at 25 and 50 yd fueled with Unique although recent changes may have me pushing with Herco instead. In any case my upper limit will be held to 1100 fps in either the 16 or 20" barrels .

Harter66 thanks for the reply.

My Rossi was built in 2022 with a 20" barrel they say it has a 1-24 twist I never checked it. The action was smooth and functions well, so I have not done any working over of any parts, other than the carrier and only took about .020" from it. I am going to let time and use make it smoother.

Saying that I don't think i'll shoot the heavy loads that some do, but would like to get 1400-1500 out of the 280gr SWC that I have loaded and 1200-1400fps out of the 300gr. Mainly because I will be shooting the same ammo out of the Blackhawk and want a shooting session to be some what enjoyable.

Howdy, welcome to CB.GL. I wasn't aware of that bullet, I had to go look it up. Looks like it'll be a winner. Those Rossi's are fast handling little carbines. I have several buddies with them.

I've been wanting to try the C430-300-RF in my Winchester 92 44 Magnum. It'll be interesting to see if it'll stabilize and what accuracy will be. I don't run any 44 Magnum handguns currently, so it'll be a rifle only load.

The Lee bullet seats at about .395-.400 inside the case loaded to the longer OAL. Mine weigh about 311gr with a gas check. Linebaugh has loads for a 310gr swc, it's the NEI 451 310, it seats about .385-.390 in the case when crimped in the crimp groove.

I also have the ranchdog 290, it seats at around the same .395 and weighs 298 with my alloy.

I typically gain 500fps going from a 4 5/8" barrel to a 20" barrel with w296, h110 and a little over 300fps with the medium burning pistol powders like hs6, 800x, and Longshot. A2400 gains around 350fps.

Thank you Sandspider500, I was looking for the Linebaugh NEI 310 seating depth into the case with no luck. Now that I can cycle the longer length in the Rossi I think I am set. Knowing that the Linebaugh loads should work in the Ruger I may work up to 24gr H-110 but will probably stop at 23gr.

I am fairly new to the 45 Colt, been a 44 Mag guy for ever, bought the Rossi and decided I needed a Ruger to go with it.
