Smoking the mold.

This may not be the right way but it sure works good. I flux each time I add an ingot and when I light the fumes I hold the mold just over the flames in the black smoke and it sure turns the mold black! It really works good too! The boolits will just fall out almost every time!

careful on how much you get in there as you can easily make your boolits oval shaped.

Will that hurt anything or do anything to your boolits?
I have cast about 1500 now and was able to load a shot around 100 today. They worked great!

Smoking is good for some moulds, not all. I only do it on moulds that need it. If you ever get a mould that just won't seem to come up to temp and it's been smoked, try brushing the smoke residue off, it can actually insulate the mould enough to cause problems.

I'm not a big fan of smoking moulds or mould release in general as I find it rarely works for me, in fact it never has improved a mould to date but I still keep an open mind that I may need it some day.

If a mould won't drop then to me something else needs fettling

I agree to try molds without smoking first, after some experience I will often CLEAN the mold again with dawn and hot water rather than smoke it. I have found that smoking will cause a smaller dia bullet which is often the opposite of what I want.

If I need to smoke a mold I only use butane, and I only smoke a HOT mold.
