I just picked up as as new Henry S/S in .308. It's one of the newer ones with a trigger pull that measures 2.8 lbs. out of the box. The poor guy I got it from had set it up with a Vortex Crossfire II 3x9x40 and added a very nice Bradley cheek piece, worked up a load with Hornady 165 grain spitzers, sighted it in, and then got rapid onset cataracts. I've got the NOE molds that throw a 165 grain GC and 180 grain GC version of the Ranch Dog boolits. Any load data for these or any other boolit you think would work well will be appreciated. In the interim, I've a stash of 165 grain ballistic tips I'm going to play with. GF

For 30-30 cast with 165s and 180s the old standby load was and is 10gr of Unique, no crimp with a single shot, except to straighten the neck after expansion. I found that the moderate burn pistol powders, like 4227 and and others of similar burn rates also work in the 30-30 with cast. Just clean the used barrel of all copper residue, first, and then slug it, size to actual groove diameter or .001 over. I prefer the Hornady GCs if I apply GC. But as of late have gone to plain base with a PC. Should use a good quality lube or powder coat before you size.

With either one of those CB's, my starting point would be 18 gr of 2400. That load or slightly higher has given me great results in my 308's.

Actually I use H4895 for my 308W cast loads, works fine, so far to 2400 fps. H335 as well. Save the 2400 for PB molds.

For the jacketed ones, I always keep coming back to Win 748 for .308 at about 80% of the max. listings.
