As stated above looking for a load that can work with my hunting scope setting. I would like to use NOE's nlg 173 or MiHec 358640 boolets. I think I want to use HS-6, Alliant 2400, or IMR 4227 powders, but have lots of options? Plan to use Max cases, but have Mag available? Thanks in advance for your replies, hc18flyer

PS- It is for a Henry single shot, reamed to .357 Maximum.

In my T/c's and Seville, I've used 11.0 2400 behind a 175 gr. bullet for around 1025 fps.

Alliant 2400 @ 12ish is on the 'short list' to try. Thanks, hc18flyer

I load 357 Max for a number of handguns. My guns (DW & TC) and for my son's DW. The DWs are the IHMSA specials and still get used for knocking down steel. Full power loads are 180s over a case full of Wc 680.

My son shoots his DW regularly when we go to the local indoor range. We found the following to be satisfying "range" loads with a PC coated Lee 120 TC: 7.6 Promo, 7.7 TiteGroup, or 9.6 Unique. POI is a little different than the 180s, but not much.

These are "plinkers" for the max, but velocities compare to hot 357 mag loads.

I loaded 4 small samples of Mihec 357640 rnfp with HS-6 @ 7 and 7.5 grains and Alliant 2400 @ 12 grains. I loaded the 173 HTC with 2400 @ 12.2 grains. I did use Max brass and CCI small rifle mag primers. I based my loads on Hodgdon .357 Magnum rifle data. Hopefully the weather this weekend will cooperate and I can test over the chronograph? hc18flyer

My favorite plinker in my Max carbine has been the Lee round nose 150 using either Unique or Bullseye. The velocity is 1300 with zero leading and it is minute-of-popcan out to 150 with the Lyman peep sight.
