Besides the good old Hollywood press, does anyone collect them???
I have a problem with collecting old tools.
Just find them so interesting.
So naturally I started looking for "different" presses.
Got a small collection of interesting one.
Just wondering if anyone else has this problem.

Same. I have 20 plus presses I haven't used in a very long time and probably never will.

Just used my old Lyman Comet the other day to load up some 30 Kern for benchrest. The old girl is just so smooth!

I have a RCBS A4 Big Max with both handles coming. Don't know much about them but it appears to be built like a tank. Should be here next week

I'm always on the lookout for old presses. I have a few and they get more use than the newer ones. Every time I use them it just brings back fond memories of me as a little kid helping my father or grandfather.

I like odd, different presses.
Those that you just don't see anymore.

I have way too many of all kinds. My lady said she counted 50 a couple of days ago when were moving things around.

I have 25 or so different presses so yeah, I can't resist an old press at a cheap price.

I just picked up an old CH single station H press. Seems like a very strong press. Need to actually load something on it,

I have a fondness for the old presses myself, especially Pacific (pre-Hornady) shotshell presses. They made 'em good back then.

Have a couple blue Bairs, a blue Pacific and a red Hornady. My favorite oldie is a huge Kodiak single stage.

When I run into an old ugly one that I can get for next to nothing -- or nothing, I pick em up. I've got a bead blaster that cleans them up real good, then get a rattle can of equipment enamel to coat them. jd

Oh Heck Yeah ... I was at a Flea Market and an old Lyman All-American Turret press kept begging me to to take her home . Screw in shell holders , wooden handle a set of 30-06 and 38/357 mag. Lyman A-A Dies with shell holders and a bunch of other reloading odds and ends $75.00 , she looked so neglected ... I did it.
She sits next to my Eagle Cobra 300 press and Pacific Super Deluxe (the blue press before Dillion was even thinking about making any kind of tools ) .
She has been cleaned lubed and set up to load 357 magnum and 30-06 !

Old Tools have always held a fascination for me ... my grandfather was a Blacksmith and my Mom got a lot of his old tools and I was just so interested in them .

I only get old presses I put into use last month (Maybe it was June? ) I bought a old Lyman All-American Turret press with 9mm & 30-06 Lyman dies* and gave it to my son . The guy wanted $25 and said that box goes with it . Inside the box was drop funnels for an old Herter's powder measure I have restored , a complete except powder hopper Ideal No. 55 powder measure and a very old Ideal powder scale .
The old powder scale did not have powder hanger or pan but with some heavy Aluminum wire and a pan from a broken Lyman scale I was able to fix it up. It is quite accurate but without modern magnetic dampening is a bit slower in use . It does have the metal part that stops the beam movement it is just training myself that is slow! Last week I got a RCBS 505 green scale for $25 . I probably do not need anymore scales but....

* I told the guy selling the press if he put it up on the internet he could get a lot more for it but he was just wanting it gone.

I was wanting a C&H single station for a long time and put a WTB add on another site and got scammed (Albert3839/Chrisriley3839) He got me for $100.00. Found one on ebay started bidding on it and than a C&H 444showed up and ended up getting them both. Than a Dunbar showed up on Ebay, did some research and ended up getting it. What a beast. Than a Hollywood Senior was put up for bid and lo and behold, it should be here today. Now I need to start selling off my modern presses...

I have an old Herters "C" press that I kind of like, and will use one in a while.
I recently seen someone post a photo of an old rusted tight Herter's "C" Press they seen at a fleamarket. I thought that would be a neat thing to use as a Boat anchor...seriously a boat anchor. Problem is I don't currently have a boat.

I have one of those. I've used it for seating cores into jackets, when swaging bullets. There isn't much mechanical advantage, so it's a challenge to FL size certain calibers.

My presses aren't too old but I have a few, the oldest is an original Rockchucker that's probably nearing 50. I do collect and use vintage stuff other than presses. I snagged a really nice old Herters scale a while back. I would like to find an old Savage Super 8 press one of these days though.

I've got some oldies but goodies and use everyone of them except for a C&H 12ga press that somebody gave me when he cleaned up after his father got out of the auction business. I ain't gonna do anything with it. Needs a new home.

They can be used as Door Stops ... you must have doors that need stops :drinks:

yep, good old press I say well they can be used as an anchor/doorstop/weightlifting moving them around. I with the rest I can't pass up a 20.00 / 30.00 press and if there's other items with it so much the better.

I use one of these to break down (bullet pull) old reloads.

There is an old Forster turret (progressive?) press on evilbay right now.

YES! I miss the Pressman! Back to the original poster. Yep, I collect old tools and presses. Interestingly I kept hearing of a legendary press collector that had hundreds of presses and virtually every version of every press made. Sometimes Texas would be mentioned. As I proceeded on my Hollywood collection journey over the years I would pick up little bits of info on him in various places and chat pages, but I was sure it was urban legend, and of course, it would be a Texan. Many years go by and I happened to be in Texas picking up a couple of Hollywoods. I was just drifting off to sleep and my cell rang. It was the very legend I had been trying to track down all this time and it was all real! I was lucky enough to be invited to see his collection so on my way back from spending a few days with Hollywood Bob in Arizona. That collection was the stuff legends are made of! Hundreds of presses and the rarest Hollywood of the all, The "Progressive" in mint condition. I'm still in awe and remain good friends with him today. He is one of the nicest people you could ever meet. I won't mention his name to protect his anonimity. Sometime I'll tell you of the Hollywood Senior horde of 30 some presses I have been able to track down. This is getting too long.
My best wishes to each and every one of you!

My stepfather gave me an old Pacific (?) C press for which I could not find shell holders. It went to the boneyard, for which I will surely have to answer when I reach the pearly gates.

Yes, I have well over 50. When I try to brag on them or show them off I always get the " why don't you junk them and buy a good press?" I have good modern presses. I started just as an interest in old , long gone companies. Then you cab see the progression as reloading get more popular or refined, like from black to smokeless powder. Then I realized that a real comprehensive collection will include 100's or presses and get expensive.

I have Herters and old Lyman but the CV Schmitt #24 makes them look modern!!!

Only have the press, no dies or shell holders, but looks to be either an engineering marvel or nightmare.

What do you consider old?
Because my son thinks anything over 5 years is old, anything over 15 is antique…….needless to say I don’t ask him what he thinks about me.

There wasn't much Pressman didn't know about reloading presses .
On his advice I bought an Eagle Cobra 300 press , got a shell holder adapter from CH4D and put it back in service ... great advice and a neat little press ...
I was hoping he would write a book on Presses ... I find the subject quite interesting .
I think he may have been active on an Antique Tools forum/site but I can't find the link to it . I wish I could find him and ask about that book !

CH4D didn't have an adapter for the shell holders ...Bummer !

So far they've helped me get three presses adapters to use snap-in shell holders
but none were Pacific ... Oh well you tried !

Well if anyone here needs an obsolete part made to get an old press up N running,PM me... we can get you fixed up. And no,this isn't a solicitation,a for sale,or anything more than to help folks out...just sayin. Danged disclaimers.

You will be required to make a dimensional drawing(dosen't need to be to scale).

Couldn't pass up an old Lyman all american comet today. Maybe it's a mistake because I intend to resurrect and use the old beast. Are shell holders special for this old red press? It has 2 set screws at top of the ram instead of a T slot and appears to have an adapter installed for 7/8 dies

Can’t say I collect them, but I bought an old Lyman Spartan at a huge antique show here in Central NYS a couple years ago. The dealer was sick of lugging it around and made me an offer I couldn’t refuse...$15.

The Lyman Comet s a small beast! The bushing for 7/8X14 dies comes out to allow you to load shot shells with Lyman’ properietary dies (that don’t match anyone else’s) and the press takes J type shell holders. The former is of no concern since you have the bushing, but the latter will require searching for the special shell holders or the adaptor and special primer punch if you want to use “modern” shell holders. It’s a pretty under appreciated press and has these two quirks, but it is actually a very good press.

Only thing I own would be considered old presses. Collect ? No, but that is what I use.
